FX Canada launches tonight on Rogers and Eastlink Cable

FX Canada, a Canadianized version of Fox Entertainment’s FX Channel, will launch tonight at 9 p.m. with a Halloween viewing of American Horror Story, a “psycho-sexual thriller” from the producers of Nip/Tuck and Glee, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Eastlink offering 3D VOD content beginning in October

Eastlink cable said this week it will be offering Active 3D movies on its Video on Demand (VOD) service beginning in October.

Active 3D, also known as Alternate-frame sequencing 3D, is the term used to describe the method used by broadcasters to present stereoscopic 3D images.

EastLink adds three International News channels to its roster

EastLink, Canada’s fifth largest cable television operator, has added three standard definition world news channels to its digital cable roster, CNN International (CNNi), Al Jazeera English (AJE), and Bloomberg Television.

AJE and Bloomberg Television are available individually and all three are available in the new EastLink World News theme package. Bloomberg will also be available in high definition.

Ericsson chosen to build EastLink wireless Network

Ericsson announced today that it has signed a four-year agreement as the sole vendor for EastLink’s wireless networks, using HSPA+ and next generation technologies.

Ericsson, whose equipment handles almost 85 percent of all mobile calls in Canada, says it will deploy technology which supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE for Eastlink.

Updated EastLink PVR firmware lets users add additional storage

Years after it was made available to consumers on many cable and satellite systems across Canada, Eastlink has updated its PVR firmware so customers with eSATA capable PVRs can add an external hard drive for additional program storage.
