Bell TV set to launch “On Demand” Service

Effective September 16th 2010, Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television provider Bell TV is expected to launch “On Demand,” a new video on demand type service.

Complete details of how the system will work have still not been announced, however, Digital Home has learned that Bell TV customers will be presented with a selection of newly released HD movie titles in an On Demand menu.

Bell Fibe TV launches in Toronto and Montréal

Bell today announced the launch of Bell Fibe TV, its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service, in select Toronto and Montréal neighbourhoods. Bell says it plans to have the service available to almost five million Canadian households by the end of 2015.

CBC/Radio Canada demands complete distribution on Satellite TV

In a statement issued today, CBC/Radio-Canada says that all Bell TV and Shaw Direct subscribers should have access to their local CBC or Radio-Canada television signal.

Bell TV currently carries nine of 14 CBC stations and eight of 13 Radio-Canada stations, while Shaw Direct carries only 10 of 14 CBC stations and six of 13 of Radio-Canada stations.

Setanta Sports HD channel coming August 1st

Setanta Sports HD, a high definition version of the Setanta Sports Channel, will be available in Canada beginning August 1st.

Th station will offers Canadians some of the best in professional soccer and rugby from the Barclays Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the Aussie Football League.

Playhouse Disney télé launches on Bell TV

Playhouse Disney télé, a commercial free French-language channel for preschoolers, began broadcasting at 10 a.m. this morning on Bell TV.

Programming on the channel include Disney programming such as La Maison de Mickey (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), Les 101 Dalmatiens (The 101 Dalmatians), Agent spécial OSO (Special Agent OSO), and Canadian programs such as Marguerite et la bête féroce (Maggie and the Ferocious Beast) and Elliot (Elliot Moose).

Bell says it’s unable to control where its web ads appear

Earlier this week, I wrote about the frustration I felt finding Bell TV advertising on websites which had stolen content from Digital Home. I also it found it quite shocking that Bell was advertising on sites advocating satellite piracy.

Since that article was written, I have been contacted by Bell Canada and Cossette Media, the media buying shop responsible for recommending where Bell Canada places their advertising.

Bell launching IPTV in Toronto and Montreal this summer

In early February, Bell announced a number of new fibre initiatives including the deployment of Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in Québec City and the introduction of Bell IPTV service in 2010.

This week in a speech at the Canadian Club in Toronto, George Cope President and CEO at Bell confirmed the official launch of IPTV would occur in Toronto and Montreal this summer.
