Bell Satellite cancels it Interactive TV service

In a recent note to its customers, Bell TV, Canada’s largest Direct-to-Home satellite Television provider, has said it will be cancelling its interactive TV service on August 18th.

CRTC demands will cost satellite TV subscribers millions of dollars

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) this week announced that it will be forcing Bell TV and Shaw Direct to add a slew of additional stations to their Direct-to-Home (DTH) subscription satellite television service.

Under existing policy, Bell TV and Shaw Direct must offer their subscribers: an affiliate of each national television network; five English- and five French-language CBC stations; one television station per province from each major Canadian broadcasting ownership group, and two stations from each of the other Canadian broadcasting ownership groups

Bell TV removes Sun News from its line-up

Bell TV, Canada’s largest Direct-to-Home satellite Television provider, has removed the Quebecor owned Sun TV News channel from its line-up in a dispute over fees.

Bell owned CTV is reporting that Quebecor sent a letter to Bell this past April 18th demanding the removal of the station from Bell’s line-up by May 3rd if an agreement could not be reached.

Bell Canada slapped with $1.3 million fine for violating DNCL Rules

The CRTC announced today that Bell Canada has paid a $1.3 million penalty for violating the National Do Not Call List Rules.

The government found that between January and October of this year, call centres acting on behalf of Bell Canada solicited consumers who had registered their numbers on the National Do Not Call List (DNCL) or who were or should have been on Bell Canada’s internal do not call list.

Sex Shop TV’s Vanessa now on

Vanessa, a Montreal based French language adult pay television channel which went live on October 28th, announced this week on its twitter feed that the station will be part of the Cogeco, Videotron, and Bell Satellite TV line-up by the end of this week.

The station is the brainchild of Anne-Marie Losique, a French television host and producer whose stated goal is to produce a Canadian version of the Playboy Channel.

Sportsnet One now on Bell TV

Almost two months after it launched in Canada on Rogers Cable, Sportsnet One and companion channels are now available on Bell TV.

The Rogers media sports station is now available on Rogers Cable, Shaw Cable, Shaw Satellite, Bell Satellite and Telus Optik TV.

Sportsnet One rumoured to be coming to Bell TV

Digital Home has been informed that Bell TV, Canada’s largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite provider, has reached an agreement with Rogers Media regarding carriage of Sportsnet One.

Bell TV updates HD PVR firmware

Bell TV this week will begin rolling out new firmware for the company’s 9241 and 9242 dual tuner HD PVRs which the company says will enable support for 2TB external hard drives and resolves the previous issue where some customers could not access interactive television applications.
