Channel 115 - WPCH - Dropped from Videotron?

I just wake up this morning and browse through the channels..

I land on 115 (PeachTree TV, which was kinda better when it was TBS but what can you do?) and there's no guide info available. Weird, but this sort of stuff happens all the time, so I just tune in to the channel to be greeted with a "This channel is no longer available".

Anybody knows what's going on? Obviously it seems either Videotron dropped it or the channel is no longer available period (it broadcasts from Atlanta, iirc). I doubt it's due to the channel no longer being available in general: their website is still up and announcing stuff for tonight (http://www.peachtreetv.com/).

This kinda sucks since I was watching that channel quite a bit. All those older sitcom reruns were great. TVTropolis is okay, but they don't run some of the older stuff I loved to watch, like Cheers.

I'll call Videotron later today to see what's going on. Hopefully I can get an answer from them.

Peachtree is No More!

Here is the answer I got from Videotron:

Welcome to our chat service.

The channel Peachtree (WPCH-17 Atlanta) is no longer available through our cable television service. This channel which was on position 115 has been removed from our channel grid. This removal is due to the present economic context and to the higher costs demanded by the broadcaster to offer it.

If you have the Peachtree channel in your à la carte package, you should change if for another channel. Note that most of Peachtree TV's programming is found on several American channels as well as other specialised channels which we already offer. We suggest you consult your TV guide.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks.

Seems like I'll have to bug them for something to replace it - I have the Mega package so I was actually paying for that channel (along many others) and since I don't have A la carte I can't really change it for another channel :)

Very upset

I was (and still am) very upset when I found that out this morning. Peachtree had a lot of good shows on: Cheers, Fresh Prince, Famile Guy, Seinfeld. It would show good movies most nights. Yes, that had been edited to fit in a 2 hour slot but whatever, it was good night watching. Plus, Atlanta Braves games in the summer.

A MAJOR disappointment for me.

Channel Recommendations

Following the death of PeachTree, does any recommend a channel replacement. Something with as similar a lineup as possible to PeachTree

Thanks!

Movietime channel isn't half bad actually, it counts a "regular channel". It shows "older" blockbusters, unlike Showcase Action which shows mostly CRAP movies.

I find myself watching a movie on it about once a week, not bad "regular channel" as part of any 20 channel a la carte (or 30, or whatever you have).

It was one of my favourite channels for 'relaxing entertainment' and i'm really not happy that it has been removed. It was Videotron's only American channel as well (not counting the regular abc/nbc/cbs).

Jeune Loup 2008-12-31 11:40 AM

What??? Only American channel???

TLC, A&E, WPIX, WSBK, WGN, KTLA, CNN, Headline News, MSNBC
those come to mind. Maybe there are some more. Fox, and PBS

Peachtree TV rocked, it had hit movies EVERY SINGLE night, I loved it and would catch movies on it every week. I wonder if Bell Expressview has it? :)

I do need a HD cable box upgrade, maybe it's time to ditch Videotron.

EDIT: Yup, Bell has it and is free if you subscribe to the Superstation package (live chat is fun, if only all companies had this on their websites).

Jeune Loup 2008-12-31 11:51 AM

Bell TV has it. I think it is part of the Superstation package. I ditched Bell this spring to go to Videotron.

brown 2008-12-31 12:30 PM

TLC/CNN/MSNBC are all specialised channels, not a regular channel.

And Videotron does not have WPIX/WSBK/etc...

Jeune Loup 2008-12-31 01:00 PM

what are you talking about, check channel 231 to 234

brown 2008-12-31 01:37 PM

Nevermind, found them. They are not part of their regular channel selection - like WPCH was - but are an additional fee.

Are they worth it? Do all 4 'superstations' boradcast similar content?

Jeune Loup 2008-12-31 02:59 PM

They have some movies, baseball in the summer, local news (NYC, L.A., Chicago and Boston depending on which station). 3 of them are affiliated to the CW, so the prime time schedule is the same. If you get tmn or super ecran, it's 2 $ for all four, or without the movie stations, I think it's 5 $ .
i like them. I get all my New York city news morning and night. my favorite city in the world.

I dont think Videotron really cares. They dropped it because of costs to deliver it.
