I wonder if this will replace the existing Discovery HD Channel......seems to me its noew redundant.

hugh 2005-12-16 03:59 PM

As announced before, it will replace the existing channel so I assume that it will be on the same channel as existing Discovery HD, where available but if folks could confirm that would be great.

In the end, if the number of distinct programs is similar to the US Discovery HD, we have nothing to complain about. They are also rotating and repeating all the time, but what can you do - there is only finite amount of relevant HD programming avaliable worldwide at this point. Discovery is not like Jay Leno or Good Morning America, where hours of new HD programming are created every day.

Actually the main complaint over the last couple of years is that the CRTC never got around to approving the real Discovery HD Theater. The current channel is a joke and didn't even exist when the application for the US version was submitted to the CRTC. But that's a topic for another thread :p

Back on topic, good news for you Canadians who have yet to experience the programs you see being promoted in Best Buy stores :D

Looking forward to seeing this channel and how it compares to its US cousin. Like other new HD channels, I'll wait a few months before passing judgement but hoping for the best.

Will this free preview apply to all cable/satelite providers with HD programming or will it be limited to providers who have choosen to pick up this channel?

JesseJ 2005-12-16 06:46 PM

I dont care if the same show is on 21 times a week, it's 24/7 HD people!

Insert obligatory CRTC/HDNet comment here: ____________________________.

PS, there will always be complainers.

And I will watch Monster Garage and American Chopper in HD, even if I've seen them already on the regular channel. It's HD!

egore 2005-12-16 07:54 PM

I would love to watch American Chopper and Monster Garage (Is MG in HD?) in HD. I hope Shaw picks up this channel next.

Oilcruzer 2005-12-16 08:06 PM

Time to start a letter / education campaign to Shaw...

aldawg024 2005-12-16 08:41 PM

Anybody know?

Is Shaw going to carry this? I know Discovery HD will launch but it's up to the individual cable/satellite providers if they want to carry it isn't it? If so, does anybody know if Shaw will be carrying this?

JesseJ 2005-12-16 09:10 PM

I have no doubt they will carry it. They need a 24/7 channel to showcase the HD-PVR.

egore 2005-12-16 11:07 PM

I'm hoping Discovery HD was part of a package deal when Shaw got TSN and CTV.

hugh 2005-12-16 11:42 PM

I have an email into Discovery HD asking about what cablesystems will be carrying it. I think at this point, its safe to say that if your cable or satellite company is not carrying the old Discovery HD, its doubtful they'll have the new version on Monday.
