Bathroom Fan Timer
Hi All:

Just moved into a new place, and would like to replace an on/off switch bathroom fan control with a timer fan control.

The wrinkle is that I'd like to install the timer switch into the same location as the current on/off switch -- to replace the switch in other words. The existing switch is one of three in a single wall box -- it looks like a standard Decora-type.

Any ideas as to a reliable timer would be appreciated.

Hi TKG26.

Thanks for the response, but there is some image glitch.

Leviton makes a good fan timer. It consists of four buttons with various times to keep the fan on. After the set time it automatically turns the fan off. It's very simple to operate (basically very high WAF and completely idiot proof.) There are 30 min and 60 min models, maybe others. They are available at Home Depot and electrical wholesalers.

Some electronic bathroom timers are poor quality and break. Had two break of the same make before switching to another type. Don't get the cheapest.

When I had my bathroom fan replaced the electrician also installed a timer - one that runs the fan on a schedule. It's what the building code requires, but I hated it.

I replaced it with a 5 button countdown timer. 60, 30, 15, 10 and 5 minute options.

I had to use a mechanical timer because there was no neutral wire.

Actually not the ones in your photo. We are referring to four push buttons from top to bottom which are like this

Preset Timer Switch
