Wouldn't you want a raise at your job too?
And this won't affect me since I'm on ultimate. |
Rogers fee increases
$46.99 for express with 60 GB cap/15 mbps. Add $2 for a jump from 15 to 18 mbps (tho, I'm getting jumps to 20) _IF_ I get the new modem, and cap increase to 70 gb... But, here's the kicker... My DOCIS 2.0 modem (WebStar modem) is apparently cannot handle the speeds according to tech support... (this modem is capable of handling a 55 mpbs rate... DOCSIS3 is pretty much for the higher speeds over 50 mbps).
The new replacement gateway wireless-n modem is $3/month more. I don't have wireless devices. 4% increase on the bill for service.. and a 9.8% increase overall. Generally, i'm hitting about 55-65% of my cap (on a BUSY month) Rogers is unable to justify this in my eyes, as the technology they're upgrading to is apparently backwards compatible. As for the speed guarantees: They guarantee UP to 20 mbps on the accounts now... ie: it won't get any faster... for the lower end... no guarantees. As an ex-tech from Bell, I know that the DSL/ADSL that Techsavvy provides is run off the Bell network, and suspect that the cable side of their business is run off of Rogers. Any increases in Bell or Rogers rates would be passed along to the end user. I STILL can't explain, tho, why Tecsavvy charges $0.50/GB for overage while Rogers charges $2... yet, previous month, you've used 1/4 of your cap... As for the Rogers increase... It's just gouging. As per annum: $24 + $36 =$60... So, more than a month's bill added per year. |
Correct - Teksavvy use the network of whatever cable provider is in the area of service - I believe they're currently in Rogers, Shaw and Vidéotron territory. Those extra $2 charges are for their direct customers, however. What they charge independent ISPs for using their network is not affected by this, though the recent CRTC decision on usage-based billing does - which is why the prices charged by independents went up.

Rogers increasing monthly overcharge
I received my bill from Rogers yesterday and on the back page there was a notice that the cap on the additional internet usage was increasing from $50 to $100 effective in August.
Guess it is time to look at alternatives... |
For those interested in Teksavvy, we have a Rogers to TS thread.
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=127932 And a TS thread. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=134450 |
Max overage charge going from $50 to $100 in August
Is anyone seeing this notice in their bill?

PS BellAliant VPs, nothing to see here. Move along... |
Not surprised in the least.
At a time when digital distribution (either through the purchase of software, video, etc.) is more the norm, rather than the exception (when was the last time you purchased a boxed piece of software?), Rogers intends to cash in on it one way or the other. |
"To protect you from unexpected high charges . . . " we are raising the cap from $50 to $100.
LOL . . . who writes this stuff? |
If you goto the Rogers website, they have updated the ultimate package info. Its now $122. per month, 150 down, 10 up. 250 Gigs per month. I dont think users such as myself are given the boost at the old price, but I am going to find out.

Rogers Ultimate Plan & Price Change
FYI:
In select areas, Rogers Ultimate is now available according to the Rogers website. 150 down, 10 up, 250 Gigs per month, all for the every low price of 122.99 per month! |
If my math is correct: 150 Mbps download equates to 18.75 MBps which would translate into 67.5 GB per hour of downloading.
So your bandwidth cap could be exhausted by 4:00 am on the first day of every month. Seriously, who would be stupid enough to sign up for that? My Teksavvy service is $37 a month and I get 300GB of download. |
Yea, I noticed the price seemed higher when I was poking around yesterday. What was the old pricing again?
|
You have to read the fine print on footnote 3:
3. For the Ultimate Internet tier, available download speeds, upload speeds, and the monthly service fee vary depending on your area. In select areas, upload and download speeds are up to 10Mbps and up to 150Mbps accordingly at $122.99/mo. Call 1-877-738-8056 to verify availability in your area. Otherwise, upload and download speeds are up to 2 Mbps and up to 75 Mbps accordingly at $99.99/mo. The old pricing was $99.99. It would be nice if they upped the monthly cap from 250GB to something bigger given the 23% increase in price. |
Agreed... I honestly don't care as much about down speed as I do about the cap... sure its great I can download a song in 2 seconds instead of 4 seconds, but if there isn't a larger cap, its pointless really...
Up speed increase was necessary though.... |
The marginal benefit of going from 75 down to 150 down is not that high but the faster upload speed is nice, especially if you placeshift video. But I almost wonder if Bell's Fibe 25/10 service is a better deal, the only problem is that you don't get enough bytes per month.
