michaelC brigort,

It is $99 per receiver (a $50 off the listed price of a 505) and you get $50 credit of PPV per receiver. You will see a $99 per receiver charge on your next bill.

The service rep's call was confusing because they talk about the $50 off the list and the $50 credit of PPV. It almost sounded like you are getting it for free but you are not. I am looking at my bill now.

ARR Since you'll hit 4 lines, plan on a 5x8 multiswitch as It's likely a 2 tuner PVR is on your future, or even just more 1 tuner units.
You should always have at least 1 spare port for expansion.

classicsat A multiswitch won't make one cable into two.

If you have one cable and HD or a quad LNBF, you will need another coax run, simple as that.

brigort Petee_C - Like others have said, I can keep my 500 - it just won't work for HD anymore.
I just happen to be on vacation this week and someone was home when they called.

I'll have to see just what I was charged for it. I could swear the rep said it was going to cost me $49.00 plus I'd get the PPV credit. I never followed up on it, because I need the receiver anyway, but It'll be interesting to see what I get charged for it. I was expecting $99 as stated above.

TJ77 There is a $99 charge. A $50 PPV credit is included.

Petee_C is there a charge for the new 505's?

BGY11 You don't have to return the 500 when you get the replacement 505 -- the 500 just won't work for HD programming anymore.

You'll probably get a call fairly soon, seeing as how the transition to 8PSK is supposed to start late next month I believe.

Petee_C brigort,

was that a call from SC? Don't u have to return the 500 when u get the 505?

I have 2 dsr500's and am waiting for them to be replaced before the modulation switch.

The 505, Multi-switches, and recording

So, I just got the call on Monday to replace my DSR500 with the 505.
What that leaves me with is three receivers with a fourth on the way. What I'm wondering about is: Can I hook up two receivers operating independently on one cable using a multi-switch?

When I swap out the 500 for the 505, the 500 will go in a bedroom to replace my first receiver, a 401. I want to bring it (the 401) down with the 505, and hook it up to a dvd burner/recorder.
All I really want to use it for is to record some late night/daytime movies off TCM.

Is it as simple as attaching the multi-switch to the incoming cable and then running cables to each receiver from the switch? Or am I missing something obvious?
The two receivers would probably never be on at the same time anyway.
