BerinG But if the xbox is just connected to the internet, then wouldn't it just go through microsoft's own network (internet) .. or will it not be fast enough to provide full service..

IPTV is currently available in Halifax. Bring it back to NB!!!!!
Aliant's version of IPTV cannot deliver a single HD channel, let alone SD PVR or HD PVR service. Nothing in any of the promotions / analyst materials Aliant has sent out even hints at such capability -- and Aliant TV has been in Halifax for about three years already.

I expect you'll see several upgrades to XBox 360 with IPTV before you have a service from Aliant that it can plug into.

joshb As of right now Telus IPTV digital boxes are running a microsoft based OS.

As far as xbox360 intergration goes anything is possible if there is enough ecentive for them.

Bdub Both Bell and Aliant (when they were separate companies) were partners with MS in their IPTV project.

Something tells me the bandwidth will be the bigger hurdle. I was reading online that AT&T has a 35 mbps service for MS IPTV. I think you'd need at least 10 mbps, and that will be a problem for most.

QuickSilver During the keynote presentation they showed a powerpoint screen with providers listed for IPTV. Bell logo was on there. Food for thought.

odiovidio Microsoft has to partner with a current Canadian internet provider to bring IPTV to Canada, so I don't think we'll be seeing that service here any time soon since their options are either Rogers or Bell, both of which already have television services in place.

They are able to do it in the States because they can partner with a large internet provider (AT&T) , who isn't currently in the television market.

XBOX 360 IPTV

I'm a bit excited about this announcement. Being able to use my XBOX360 as an IPTV set top box and have PVR functionality is amazing. Bell (don't they own Aliant?) was shown as one of the developers Microsoft is working with during the keynote presentation.

I used to have VibeVision in Saint John and it was way better than Rogers. I'm currently a Bell satellite owner and I was going to pick up the HDTV PVR box but if IPTV is going to be reoffered in the maritimes, I welcome it with open arms.

IPTV is currently available in Halifax. Bring it back to NB!!!!!
