17671 As of a few days ago, the Google Android Play Store now supports Dark Theme if you have Android 9 (formerly called Android Pie) or greater. great scott, it looks great.

17671 yes its probably the same play store guts but they put a ui layer which was an xml file from their server and im guessing if the server traffic was too busy, it grabbed the local copy instead. my guess is that in the next few updates to the play store, they will incorporate the material theme directly into the app data files itself, instead of a server side ui/skin. but since they control the updates of the play store, they will slowly move over some elements at a time slowly little by little till its fully updated.

TorontoColin Which theme your phone displays is controlled server side. Sometimes they will test UI changes on small groups before a staged wide roll-out, but sometimes their logic for these things is incomprehensible.

17671 i get that GPM is being phased out i kinda got the hint of that recently. anyways some anomaly, i have noticed a few times the material theme design has reverted back to the old school google play store, it did it like 2-3 times so far maybe the theme is being downloaded off a server and not the local drive of the phone? who knows? anyways hope it becomes permanent, its really a nice design so far.

TorontoColin Play Music is being discontinued. I assume they'll continue to sell albums and songs through Google Play (why turn down money if people want to give it to you?) but they want their music business to be selling subscriptions.

Google Play Material Design

So the other day Android made it official, they permanently launched the Google Play Material Design theme to all Android Devices. I tried mine and noticed it changed. the one thing is I think its still glitchy as it switched back like 2 to 3 times in the last day or two to the old play store theme, but switched back after i closed the app and refreshed it. so yeah its here for good. I first noticed it back in may or so on my phone, and was kinda shocked as to why i had this new redesign, and no one else did at the time, but then they reverted it back and funny enough my wife had it on her phone as of the last 2 weeks or so and i just got it like yesterday or so, so yeah its pretty nice pretty clean, i noticed they removed the music tab so that means they might make the music store built into the GPM app or maybe into the youtube music app in the future, but you can still access the music store thru the the main menu. but i feel they may discontinue it at some point in the not so distant future, good stuff android, a division of google, a division of alphabet
