Yup I agree. Iím not paying $20/month for Sportsnet World to watch Indycar. I watch the races shown on the other Sportsnet channels and NBC that I get as part of my cable subscription. Iím hoping that there was enough backlash over this yearís deal that it goes back to either a regular Sportsnet channel or TSN buys the rights and shows both qualifying and the race. Iíd probably get the NBC Gold Indycar Pass if it was available in Canada next year.
Does anyone know how long this Sportsnet World deal was for (only 2019)? Indycar really blew it for Canadian fans by not negotiating with anyone other than Sportsnet.

SN could do that if they wanted to, though. They don't want to.
TSN would be better simply because they probably wouldn't stick it on an outrageously overpriced channel that almost nobody gets while showing the Jays on 7 channels at the same time.
Honestly now that it's not on TV, I forgot Indycar was happening.

From 2013 to 2015, Sportsnet was showing qualifying for all NBC races.
From 2016 to 2018, only qualy for the Indy 500 and Toronto was broadcast.
TSN would be better than Sportsnet for IndyCar in my opinion simply because TSN could continue to show the race during commercials like they do for F1 and NASCAR.

|57||I haven't been following IndyCar very closely this year due to half the races not being on TV, so I forgot to record the last race. I found the results on the main Indycar website and was surprised to see a 30 minute condensed video of the race. Not a bad way to watch, but you already know who wins (which doesn't matter that much if there's good racing to watch, unfortunately....)|

Scott Dixon has really thrown the season away. Unfortunate at COTA with the yellow, gets caught up in a crash at Indy, crashes out at Detroit, crashes out at Texas and now Road America.
He was so fast today at Road America but he decided to be tentative and make an error which caused him to get hit from behind. Had he not got hit while being the leading car with black tires he would have been in 2nd place by the second stint. After that I have no doubt he would have finished 2nd.
Unbelievable! Dixon should be right up there in the championship but when it was comes to racing wheel to wheel against other cars he's just got poor racecraft. I think I've said the same thing in other seasons too. What a shame!

I don't think F1 being a parade is Liberty's fault. They're working on fixing the rules as best they can, but that mess was in place before them. The change a few years ago to make cars bigger and more "aggressive" looking had the side effect of making Monaco basically impossible to race on, as the track is so narrow that the bigger cars can't race on it. The budget end is so lopsided that it's effectively two different leagues.
I tend to like the job Liberty is doing overall, but the stuff that really needs fixing in F1 is also the stuff that entrenched interests in the teams are most unwilling to change. A new series won't magically fix that Ferrari is going to want to spend a whole lot more money than Penske.

- as I mentioned before, I stopped watching this year...been watching my whole life.
I'm not jumping through hoops and spending good money to watch IndyCar. I watched the Indy 500 and will catch up on the highlights and use my free time for something else.
I sometimes wish that some of the manufacturers in F1, and the Chevy/Honda Indycar programs would just all bail on both series they are in and create a new open wheel series. There is too many levels of "management" and stakeholders. Guys like Tony George almost killed Indycar, and it wouldn't take much to get a new series going and bury the remains of what we have now. Some great tracks would easily switch - too many are being held hostage and would love a new series to appreciate them. Liberty Media is turning F1 into a parade.
Just imagine, names like Penske, Ganassi, Andretti, Honda and Chevrolet joining up with Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, and other F1 teams to start a new series, with new rules, and without multiple levels of rights holders, on most of the classic tracks. I know I would watch.

|Tridus||Sadly, I think this deal will kill Indycar in Canada. The only races I've watched were the NBC ones, and absolutely nobody seems to be talking about it except around here. The series is invisible.|

Yeah I watched it too and there was so many yellows. And a red. It's really out of hand.
People bemoan the big runoffs in F1, but that does do a lot in helping to avoid every little incident turning into a safety car.

Something needs to be done about the Yellow flags - you might as well not even try until the closing stages and hope for a yellow these days.
Even the Indy 500 had that yellow at the end that could have changed results if Rossi won by allowing him to bunch up. Also gives too much of a fuel advantage to some teams that run low in hope of a yellow to either re-fuel or conserve gas.

Since it was on NBC, I decided to watch the Detroit races this past weekend. Another frustrating experience for me:
1. The rain-delayed Saturday race switched channels at 6PM with about 20 minutes remaining. Not much good to me since I had recorded the event and was watching late in the evening (having added 3 hours just in case...)
2. Although I was able to see all of the race on Sunday, there were far too many full-course yellows for my liking and I also came to the realization (not for the first time), that, although certain drivers have more skill than others, the luck of the yellow plays too much of a roll in deciding the winners/losers of a race. Some call this "strategy", but really, it's often mostly luck.
I realized that I don't really miss IndyCar much this year.

I wish that SAP would allow the races without commentary. F1 allows no commentary as an option on their service and I enjoy watching the races that way.
I do have to say after decades of ABC broadcasting the Indy 500, I did find the NBC crew to be a breath of fresh air. The only thing I didn't like is that it seemed that they had a commercial break every 2-3 minutes.
My wife also only watches this one race each year (I'll watch more races in a weekend then she has in a decade) - and she really likes that the Indy 500 usually has at least one female driver and she also likes that Danica Patrick was on the commentary team. I really think that IndyCar does a great job of promoting female drivers as equals instead of a side attraction like F1/FIA wants to with the W Series. European open wheel racing can learn a lot from Indycar to get more female fans involved.

When I heard Mclaren were going to have a technical partnership with Carlin I was skeptical if Alonso would even do well. I'm not surprised he failed to qualify.
Although the previous ABC commentators were absolutely atrocious I did appreciate how they didn't speak during the opening laps of the Indy 500. I didn't realize how much better it sounded without anyone speaking until the NBC guys spoke during the opening laps.
