Spent $85 on a rubber surround from Otter
I got rubber/plastic a protective case on eBay for $10. It takes a little looking since eBay is flooded with cheapo useless $1 cases. That $85 OtterBox price is probably about $80 markup. You know something is out of whack when BestBuy puts OtterBox Defender Cases on sale for 60% off. They are probably still making money at that price.

I'm a fan of LG phones as well. Picked up a G4 some time ago for about 1/4 of the price of a flagship Samsung or Apple phone. So what if it's last year's phone? It has good specs, does the job and those flagship phones will be last year's models so fast that they aren't worth a 300% premium.

dschell_2000 I ended up getting an LG G5 phone. Works much like my old Samsung phone, but faster.

While the BellMTS web site may appear to offer a newer phone for zero incremental cost, don't believe it.
They want $40 as a 'connection charge', and if you ask that they transfer stuff from your old phone to the new one, they can charge $25 for that. The CSR that was looking after me didn't charge me. It took her about two minutes to put my photos all on the memory card which moved to the new phone, and with gmail, your contacts move with you.

Then comes the issue of a new case.
The LG is quite a bit bigger than my old phone. Reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon where they make sure the product is slippery and fragile, so customers break it on first use.
Spent $85 on a rubber surround from Otter and a holster from Roots.
Changed my mind and ordered a flip case from Amazon for $15. Might keep the holster.

gordon1111 There has not been any corporate stores since before the merger the original ones were Portage Place, Winnipeg Square and I believe one more but they are now all owned by dealers.

timlocke I have bought phones from Best Buy Mobile, we have one in the local mall sandwiched between Rogers and Telus. This time, wanting a new iPhone 8 for the mrs I went over to the Apple Store in Waterloo.

ExDilbert I would never deal with Rogers or Bell stores. Bell really turned me off of corporate branded phone stores. The best place I found to buy a new locked phone is Best Buy. They often have sales or rebates which can bring the price down considerably.

The last time I dealt with Bell, they refused to sell me the phone without also buying a long term warranty that I didn't want. Told them to take a hike. Best Buy sold the phone $120 cheaper but was out of stock. I ended up buying a much better, unlocked phone on eBay for a little more money.

@dschell_2000 , I suggest you look for a different phone if you want one from Bell. My experience is that once they run out of stock, that's it. Even if you find one, they may try to inflate the price as they did with me. I'd look on eBay since many more models are available there. Be sure to buy from a Canadian supplier that has compatible Canadian phones and make sure it is unlocked. The biggest issue is that the phones on eBay are often returns that may have a defect or two. Be sure to check the phone out thoroughly upon receiving it.

gzink Paolo you are referencing Rogers. Deal with any arm of Bell for a little while and see how sane you stay.

17671 Yes I don't understand. Here in Ontario, we have Rogers stores which are OWNED by Rogers, Then we have the Third Party stores, which have a Rogers logo on them too, but somewhere on the sign there is some writing like (Authorized Retailer) even on their business cards, they say something like Cellcom Wireless Inc. The receipts they give you look different than the receipt you would get at a Rogers store. And on the website when you look up the store, they display their Retailers name instead of Rogers. So I don't quite understand how hard it would be to differentiate a Bell MTS Authorized Retailer from a Corp Store?

dschell_2000 What you don't understand, Paolo, is that only some of the stores labelled BellMTS are corporate owned. There are many different owners of stores labelled BellMTS, but they don't share databases.
And yes, the phone numbers are listed.
How many phone calls should I be willing to make to purchase a product?
So far I've made about a dozen - some of them quite scornful that I would ask for such a model.

If Bell actually had any competition, they might try a little harder.

17671 It's not that difficult, I'm not even from Manitoba but I tried going on to the www.bellmts.ca website, there is a store locator. just going thru it myself, I see stores called BellMTS, Northern Store, Home Hardware, The Mobile Shop in Real Canadian Superstore, Gene's Telecom. For sure the BellMTS ones are corporate owned, the others are no doubt authorized retailers who are allowed to sell bell products. not that difficult. they even put the phone number on the web site you can call them too

dschell_2000 First of all, how would you identify which BellMTS store is Corporate? There is no label on the store.

But yes, by asking the people at the store next to Princess Auto, they told me that the southernmost store at Polo Park is Corporate. They don't have stock, but someone suggested I contact the Advance-owned store. I phoned them last Friday, and the female who answered said yes, they have a black one and a white one in the database. I asked if they would put one on hold for me, she took my name and phone number, and said to come to the store closest to The Bay.

So Saturday morning, when all sane people will stay far away from that area, I went there. The people on staff said that their database shows one in stock, but they don't believe it because it's been that way for months.
While at Polo Park, I also visited the other two BellMTS stores, the kiosk in the middle, plus The Source, which is now owned by Bell. I considered one of the stores in Portage or Brandon, but was told that even if they had one in stock, they wouldn't transfer it to Winnipeg because they are all individually owned.

17671 Have you tried going to a Corporate Bell MTS Store? usually the website mirrors that of the corporate store availability.

Phone not available

I'm very frustrated with BellMTS right now.
I just discovered this week that I can upgrade my phone (past contract) to a Samsung S6 Edge for zero cost.
That's the theory.
In practice, BellMTS stores are telling me they haven't had that model for months now. The web site still shows it.
Also, because BellMTS stores are owned by many different owners, there is no central database that can tell you where to find stock in a particular model.
For my low-data subscription (2.5 GB) Bell won't let me get the S7 or S8 at zero cost.
