Inglewood I don't understand why they would schedule the "Super Bowl Postgame" at 9:30, and then lead-out programming (The World's Best) at 10pm. Makes no sense.

The game started at 6:30, and with the 3x longer halftime, there is no way it would have been done at 9:30pm. If there was more scoring, the game would have been to 10:30pm or longer with all the booth reviews. Just thought it was weird that CBS would schedule it this way.

Viper550 Did any other provider simsub Citytv right at 10:00 p.m. sharp over CBS for The World's Best?

They're showing Modern Family as filler before the show actually starts, but the presumption that a Super Bowl lead-out program would actually start at 10:00 p.m. is wildly inaccurate (personally, 10:30 is a better ballpark estimate). Automation was probably a factor too.

Dr.Dave @TheHulk I moved your post here.

The game itself will not be simsubbed, but the pre-game up to the first commercial of the actual game and the post-game was simsubbed last year.

BGY11 Nope - apparently that's supposed to take place next year though, but we will have to see.

American commercials are a go as long as you tune into an American network (for the main game - pregame and post-game content is simsubbed as per Dr Dave's comment above)

Super Bowl on Fibe

Will today's game be simsubbed. I know the past two years haven't been but heard there may have been a change in the newest trade package with the US and Mexico.

Dr.Dave Here is Bell Media's press release for the Super Bowl coverage on CTV, CTV2, and TSN1/3/4/5. RDS delivers live French-language coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Fans can visit to watch pre-released SUPER BOWL ads in advance of kickoff. In addition to the all-new 2019 ads, the site also features fan-favourite ads from years past. Note that the pre-game (up to the kick-off or the first commercial of the actual game) and the post-game will be simsubbed.

Of course they can put the 4K signal into a 1080i transmission.
But it won't be a 4K signal anymore. It will be a 1080i signal.

I know you know that. I just want to clarify that for anyone else reading this.

57 There is no secondary. They would have the UHD 4K close-ups used by all final transmissions. It's like zooming in on a camera that has 40MP instead of 10MP, the former would look a lot sharper after zooming.

Of course they can put the 4K signal into a 1080i transmission. It's done all the time. There are 4K boxes hooked to 1080P TVs, etc. The downconversion is easy. Most video cameras now are at least 1080p and those are downconverted to 1080i for OTA transmission.

HowardDoin I understand. Just wondering if there would be a secondary OTA transmission, one at 1080i and one 1080i with the 4K closeups etc. Thatís the part I donít get. Can they put 4K content into a 1080i signal.

Inglewood Looks like the game might be cancelled because of the shutdown...

Considering the source, it "must be true"....

Dr.Dave @dm_4u The Super Bowl won't be simsubbed this year. The USMCA hasn't been passed by the legislative bodies of any of the 3 countries and doesn't affect the Super Bowl. The CRTC ruling that disallows Super Bowl simsubs is still in effect.

@HowardDoin I'm not sure what you're getting at. The CBS OTA signals will still be 1080i. If you get the CBS local now, there is nothing to rescan. The closeups may be a little sharper, but the transsmission will still be 1080i, not 4K.

EDIT: magnet responded as I was typing.

magnet The new NAFTA replacement has not been passed into law, so this is most likely the last year that we will get the USA feed.

Note they will still sim sub the pre-game show.
It is only the game itself that you will see the USA commercials on CBS.

dm_4u Is the Super Bowl being sim-subbed in Canada this year?

EDIT: I managed to find the original CBS press release:
Curious whether any of us living near the border would be able to pull this in OTA. I get all of the Buffalo locals now, maybe a rescan at game time would do the trick?
