I'm impressed that today MTS announced the turn up of service in the area, took about 6 months from the original announcement.
thanks to Dr. Dave for posting it here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/193-...ml#post2683338
I was just surprised that looking at the new MTS coverage maps there are still holes in the Piney area along Hwy 12 both north and south of the new tower.

I know the RM Councillors and Reeve has been asking for years for this area to be served.
From what my relatives in the area told me Vic Towes was not interested in finding federal money when he was the MP for the area. The province always said they would go into a funding agreement when the feds did.
I always expected to see a car icon go off a flat earth on my GPS app when I lost the signal from Vita or Middlebro entering the dark section of Hwy 12.

While the timing may look suspect, this has been a long time coming with some major forest fires in the Stuartburn, La Broquerie, Piney and Franklin areas in 2007, 2008 and one in 2011 where limited cellular and land lines being completely knocked out putting the residents and emergency personnel at risk.!
If it meant getting things done, I'd say let's have elections every two months!

MTS filling in Cell Gap on HWY 12 south
MTS announced today that they are going to be providing cell service in the Piney area along Hwy 12 south.
MTS to expand HSPA and LTE wireless service to Piney - MTS Allstream
I wonder if because there is a federal and provincial election in the next few months that infrastructure money was found to help MTS pay for this. Both the federal MP and a NDP cabinet minister were at the announcement as well as the Reeve for the RM of Piney
There is an existing MTS fleet net tower in the area north west of Piney so maybe they are going to use that site and upgrade the existing electronics instead of building a new one.
