Half of what you are paying is a definite yes. The issue is, retention is not what it used to be. Quotas get slashed and companies are ready to let customers go at higher rates than before, especially when it means slashing the bill in half.
My suggestion is to always be super polite, explain to them that a 50% discount even with all the extras is over $1000 for that year alone. You could cancel, switch, and switch back before end of year and put that money to good use like investment or vacation.
If someone offered me 1000$+ in exchange for 1-2 hours of calls tops and a day of waiting for the install, I'd take it but depends on how valuable it is relatively to you.

Worth calling Retention?
Shaw cold called me and is offering 75/7.5 inet, home phone, basic+5 themes and bluesky for 2 tv's for $80/month for a year.
Granted it will cost another $20 for unlimited long distance and a couple extra channels but that's about >half what I'm paying MTS now for net, home phone, tv + dvrs($229).

Upcoming notice of BellMTS price increase
BellMTS has posted a notice of upcoming prices increases on their website.
|2017-07-06 09:59 AM|
Bell MTS announced "Price Adjustments" effective Sept. 2017. The last general increase was Feb. 2016.
I have posted the new prices from the link plus the old price where it is available from the web site. I didn't include those communities in rural Manitoba that have Cable TV in this table. The price increase for internet is $3.95/month for those plans where the old price available so I expect that is also the case for the other plans that aren't currently listed.

MTS Pick and Pay
MTS has released a new brochure "Current as of November 22, 2016."
Here is the PDF of "Individual channel pricing" as required by the CRTC (pick and pay.)
The individual channel pricing is also shown for each channel in a channel group by clicking on the plus sign.
Some companies like Bell Media have made their wholesale prices so high that it would cost $8 for one channel like Space or Bravo, when the group that they are in is only $4 and you get 5 channels for that price.
On the other hand, if you don't want the whole Entertainment group for $4, you can get just Showcase (Corus) for $1.99.

|bigdoubledee||Looks like an interesting way to stick people with channels they don't want. Other than CBC and TSN who wants anything else on that list?|

MTS finalized their Printable TV Channel Packages Brochure PDF on Friday, which sheds a little more light on their packaging. The following channels are grouped as "Essentials" and are only available if you "upgrade" from Starter to Basic:
CBC News Network
YTV East & West
The following channels are grouped as "Extras" and are "included with your set-top box rental", which means everyone will get them, since everyone needs an STB. That's an interesting way to work around the CRTC restriction that extra channels can't be included in "skinny basic".
288 Al Jazeera English
96 Apps on TV Demo Channel
27 Daystar Canada
190/1190 FNTSY Sports Network
179 Horseracing 1&2
40 MTS TV Free View Channel
29 MTS TV Weather
287 RT (Russia TV)
83 SOCIAL TV
7 The Shopping Channel
1016 The Weather Network App
92 Ultimate Picks
9 What's On MTS TV
menu choices Buddy TV, MyMenu and Twitter on TV

Thinking of switching from Shaw to MTS, and wondering if there are any MTS reps lurking to help.
Just need Internet, I know the standard 1/2 offer is a 3 month promo, but wanting a 6 or 12 month promo if possible. Lighting 25, maybe 50 is the price/terms are right.
Any feedback on best I could get for this?

Starter Package (Skinny Basic)
MTS put the pricing of their "Starter" package on their web page:
$28/month (includes first wired set-top box rental worth $3/month.)
It includes the equivalent HD channels and the U.S. networks.
You can see all the channels here (can be sorted by package.)
I noticed that they lumped all the "extra" channels from the original Basic into "Essentials," but there doesn't seem to by any way to order them aside from ordering the full Basic, which is $17 more than Starter.
The good news is that MTS has always had cheap "channel groups" - most are $3 - $4 and have about 5 channels. I noticed that they have taken down the link to the PDF of their channel brochure - they must still be working on the new one.
According to an MTS post in their Community Forum, the Starter package is not eligible for bundling. A user post says that if you have Total Internet the set top and PVR credits will still apply (not confirmed by MTS.)

Spoke to MTS today, getting the information was like pulling teeth and the agent had to consult with supervisor.
Anyway, this is what I got about MTS's skinny basic:
- will include Canadian networks
- will include US networks
- will include HD
- will cost $25
Further details will be released by their "marketing department" closer to (or on) launch date.
