Dr.Dave Bell MTS bringing all-fibre broadband connections to Flin Flon

Bell MTS today announced an expansion of its all-fibre broadband network in Flin Flon that will bring Gigabit Internet speeds and next-generation Fibe TV service to approximately 2,800 residences and businesses throughout the Northern Manitoba city.

With direct connections to the Bell MTS fibre network beginning this summer, Flin Flonners will have access to Bell MTS Gigabit Fibe Internet, Whole Home Wi-Fi and Fibe TV, as well as a path to future digital communications services enabled by Bell's high-capacity fibre links.

Fully funded by Bell MTS, construction of the Flin Flon fibre project starts in March.

Dr.Dave The Bell MTS all-fibre broadband network is expanding to Carman

Bell MTS and the Town of Carman today announced plans to expand the Bell MTS all-fibre broadband network to approximately 1,600 residences and business locations throughout the town.

These direct fibre connections will offer the Pembina Valley community access to Bell MTS Gigabit Fibe Internet service as well as the innovative Fibe TV television service with 4K picture quality and exclusive viewing features.

Fully funded by Bell MTS, the network expansion includes approximately 40 kilometres of new fibre installation directly to homes and commercial locations throughout Carman. The first customer connections are expected later this year.

Comment: Like Winkler, Carmen is served by a Cable TV system purchased by MTS many years ago.

Dr.Dave Bell MTS expands all-fibre broadband network in Winkler

Bell MTS and the City of Winkler today announced plans to expand the Bell MTS all-fibre broadband network to an additional 4,000 residences and businesses throughout the city, bringing the total number of locations that will have access to the world's best Internet technology to more than 5,000.

"As a leader in modern technology, the City of Winkler is pleased with the efforts of Bell MTS to provide a selection of services that will meet the needs of the City of Winkler for the next generation," said Martin Harder, Mayor of Winkler.

Bell MTS fibre to the premises (FTTP) service delivers Fibe Gigabit Internet with symmetrical data access speeds of up to 940 megabits per second (Mbps) now and ultimately speeds of 40 Gigabits per second (Gbps) and beyond in the future. Bell MTS fibre also powers the Fibe TV next-generation television service that will be introduced in Winkler later this year.

"The expansion of the Bell MTS all-fibre network will continue to be a major contributor to ongoing economic growth in the region," said Dan McKeen, Vice Chair Bell MTS & Western Canada. "The network build in Winkler is part of our 5-year, $1-billion investment plan in the province, and we look forward to delivering further broadband enhancements to communities large and small to ensure Manitobans have access to the best network technologies available."

Fully funded by Bell MTS, the network expansion includes more than 50 kilometres of new fibre installation both underground and on utility poles. Bell MTS is employing innovative installation techniques to minimize disruption to residents and businesses throughout the FTTP deployment. The first new customer connections are expected later this summer.

Note that Winkler is one of the communities where where MTS owns the local cable company, so residents will be moving from Cable TV to Fibe TV.

I've been told that MTS has been upgrading a few individual streets to FTTH in west Winnipeg. I found out by accident when someone who had an MTS landline added MTS internet. They installed fibre from the pole and replaced the analog phone service with digital.

Macman It's not just here.

Cham In rural areas around Morris the copper is getting very old... running out of lines, and sometimes intermittant service. I am hoping they can replace the copper with fiber and upgrade the whole network... Maybe then we can even get interweb again!

Dr.Dave I haven't seen their cable system personally, but it's the same basic technology as Shaw.

I don't know if their long-term plan is to upgrade the cable plant or replace it with FTTH.

Macman And this cable service is totally different than their DSL based tv service eh? I've heard of it, just never seen it. I'm guessing it's like Shaw's cable tv system, just on a local scale?

Furkmyster Yes, Winkler/Morden have a TV service from MTS. The maximum 7Mb internet is what really stinks out here.

Dr.Dave Like Morris, Winkler and Morden already have MTS TV through cable. I think MTS is focused on communities that can't get TV service from MTS.

Furkmyster What about the Winkler/Morden area?

Dr.Dave Doesn't MTS already provide TV in Morris through the cable company they bought in 2006?

Cham Morris?
