mbhydro For the past few years MTS has been using a private call center out of Brandon to do tele- marketing for them.

They usually call me with special deals to upgrade to the Ultimate TV from Classic TV. Also had one call from them when my cell plan expired asking if I wanted to change handsets?

Macman Would it be midwest teleservices international? I just did a search, and they are located in Brandon. I would be apprehensive too, but as far as I know, all the MTS Connect stores are owned by third parties. So I would assume this is the same case with phone sales.

sctb1 I got the same call last month and signed up. My speed increased a few days later and my bill shows Lightning 25 with a corresponding bill credit.

Mozza Just received an odd call from "Midwest Telecom Services" offering me a free upgrade for 3 months to Lightning 25. They seemed to know information about MTS, but the woman certainly sounded a bit "sketchy"... decided not to jump on it and to call MTS directly to find out. Anyone else?

CoryB Many years back MTS confirmed that TV + Internet customers received a speed bump over the posted speed.

I'm wondering if "history" is the appropriate word here, or is it just a rumour?
I don't know how someone would verify that customers in the same location with varying numbers of services would get different speeds.

CoryB Not necessarily the "best" speed test out there but I was downloading a large file this weekend and my Lighting 25 was reporting a steady number suggesting the connection was actually at 30 Mbps and even tipped into the 31 range at times. As advertised it would not exceed 25. I have seen this behaviour in the past too before official speed bumps were announced. MTS also has a history of giving higher than posted Internet speeds to customers that have TV and Internet which I do.

dschell_2000 It seems to me that when you do different speed tests, the one constant factor is your local connection to MTS. The variation has to come from the far end. Therefore, the fastest result has to be true for your home to the MTS server.

I'm prepared to accept arguments for/against.

bigdoubledee So did a re test, results as follows:

Speedtest.net - 17.95
Shaw - 25.1
testmynet - 10.6
Cogeco - 20.54
Primus-12.44
Bell- 26.65

So 2 tests show I am getting my money's worth, 4 don't. So I'll say again, I could be getting ripped off and have absolutely no way to prove it. And if I believe MTS own test then I am getting less than 1/2 the speed I am paying for.

bigdoubledee Mozza, does it really matter who has the slowest speed test? If I am paying for 25 and not getting it then I am getting ripped off? Is this that hard to follow?
2014-06-07 09:13 AM
mbhydro One thing I have found is that I may get a slow MTS test result until I reboot my PC and then it brings the speed back to normal on the tests.

Not sure if the PC / Router / MTS tv gateway is the problem but when a new session starts it back to normal.

Mozza Wouldn't it follow that if MTS was "ripping you off", they wouldn't be the slowest speed test?
2014-06-06 05:26 PM
bigdoubledee I will test again when I have more time. MTS is ripping me off because I'm paying for 25 and getting 5.8 by their test.

shawguy My Lightning 10 package

Speedtest.net 9.87 / 1.87
testmynet 9.3 / 1.45
Shaw speedtest 10.87 / 1.25

So basically these tests mean nothing as who do you believe, MTS could be ripping us off and we would never know.
The logic doesn't follow: if testmynet is really the MTS test, and it gives you the lowest numbers, then how is MTS ripping you off?

I just tried a bunch of speed tests for consistency for my Lightning 10 connection and got these results:
Speedtest.net 11.51
westman 11.08
Bell 11.52
Shaw 10.87
Primus 8.75
testmynet 10.97

Who can explain the variation?
I'm happy because the majority are above the advertised rate, and are higher than I was getting 6 months ago.
