Jump to channel

So, does anyone with Version 2.2.28138.5 and a VIP1200 STB have the JUMP-TO_Channel feature in the Customize Guide page? (As opposed to in the Customize Favorites page.)

Delayed roll out

Maybe they're re-writing the Favorites portion of the program...

kibosh I called in today and spoke to a couple different tech people and they informed me the roll out is not complete and, basically, I'll get it when I get it.

Reboot your box by unplugging it to get it. The update is over. Call in if you still don't have it. I had one box that didn't update and unplugging got it to update.

Hertz Personally, the biggest downside with the new update it the number of times you have to press buttons to zoom a channel. It was already complicated, now it's just a pain. I would like the zoom button to actualy zoom right when we press it instead of going to a useless menu.

First I hated the new favourites menu, but I don't mind since I discovered that the menu button now do the trick.

Thats NOT how it works! Once you've selected which Favs list you want, that is what comes up when you push the Guide button.

It works as easily as it always did, once you've made your selection on which of your new lists you want to come up on pressing guide!

Figure it out people, and you will be happy. It does NOT make you learn new kep press sequences! Sheesh!

Ultimately this is the result. Most will just not use the favorites list anymore. I know I don't use it as often as before simply because of the extra button presses needed to get back to the full guide listing. This setup sort of defeats the purpose of having a customizable guide.

upsdriver Well I could not deal with this Favorite list pop every time I pressed the GUIDE button, so I went in and deleted the damn favorites list, at least now when I click GUIDE it shows GUIDE and not the damn favorites, besides I know where my favorite channels are and not need to have a list for them...

keven You're totally correct regarding how the Favourites & Guide buttons work and I find it extremely annoying. I used to use the Favs button all the time but now it's just a pain because it takes 3 clicks and then I'm locked into Favs (i.e. Guide brings up Favs) so it's another 2 clicks to get back to the overall guide. I assume they've done this because of the new addition of multiple lists but I think there could be a more intuitive fix for this (e.g. if you only have one list of favs then the favs button just brings up those channels as it did before, if you have more than one list of favs you get the option to choose which one from a list, you set up additional lists in settings or wherever else, and the main Guide button always brings up the main guide as expected). Just my thoughts... hopefully I change my mind once I get used to this new method.

upsdriver I totally agree with you, Bell has to do something about this crap that they came out with on this new upgrade, I liked the fact that when you pressed GUIDE it was Guide that showed up and not favorites, and for those who love it, well then Bell has to do something to accommodate everyone... and Im sure on the next upgrade we will will see something being done about this....

Red River number of people using the remote is important. guide is used the most in my household I'm the only one ever even using the fav button so it's all about individual habits and prefercence.
regardless, with multiple users thie new format is nightmare and step backwards...

juliedawn Red River and Dynot:

I disagree. I much prefer being able to have the list I am using most frequently on the larger 'guide' button as opposed to the smaller 'favourites' button.

I got curious and thought maybe I was missing the point, so polled several friends and co-workers who also have Fibe and they agree, they usually use one particular favourites set up with the channels they most commonly use for regular viewing. For instance, perhaps cutting out all the news channels or sports or PPV or whatever that they don't want to delete from the guide permanently, but also don't want to see every time they are scrolling around deciding what to watch. They (and I) only go to 'all/custom' channels if looking for something out of the ordinary or something specific. Or as one person told me: "when I'm bored and can't find anything to watch on my usual channels".
Basically, most of us rarely used the 'guide' button before and instead struggled to always hit the tiny 'favourites' key, so this is much better.

If Bell put the favourites list choice back only under the favourites button, THAT is what would now mean extra keys to be entered, for most people who have efficiently set up their favourites in the way intended.

I know that the people I asked is a very small number when compared to all the people in the Fibe world, but then so are the numbers of unhappy people posting here....

I'm with Pooper - very happy with the change and I think it WAS a well-thought out solution to giving us multiple favourites, considering the other option would have been to supply everyone with new remotes with the buttons the other way around - obviously NOT going to happen lol.
