GWNorth I think we might be experiencing the same guide problem. Our guide data ends on Monday at 5pm (less than 2 days of guide data). If nothing changes I expect that after that time we will get no new recordings. We didn't experience any issue with time being off. We have been getting some intermittent problems with loss of signal and no service available messages. I guess I will try the reset option and see if it fixes things.

Update: Reboot did not fix the problem. I looked at the diagnostic menus and saw errors for IP address, account, epg, etc. downloads so the Gateway wasn't able to communicate with Shaw. I called Shaw and they said someone had deleted our Gateway (and portals) from their system!?!? The agent added them back and things should be okay now.

gzink Just a note that we experienced loss of guide info and then no recording. It may have started with the time being off so recordings were starting late. Anyway called Shaw and got to push the factory reset with a paper clip.
Don't know if others experienced this lately but thought I would mention it.

Raven Logics I have been updated to software update (XG1v3, Feb 02). The guide response is more acceptable now, and so is typing in a channel number directly. The program content blanks when scrolling (not that I could read it at that speed anyway) but populates quickly when I release the button. I don't need it to be perfect (all I am doing is selecting a TV show to watch or record), so this seems to be a reasonable improvement.

spitoon I noticed the guide being much better this evening.

The fix has eliminated the major delays, but the Guide is still slow compared to other systems. I still see blank entries in the grid which now fill within a few seconds.

GWNorth From my point of view, the slow guide issue was always there on the Gateway but was made significantly worse by the last update. I remember way back when the "trick" functions (skip ahead/skip back) were slow too but they actually made a good fix to make those fairly good now. Wish they could put the same focus on the other multiple slow spots in the system.

The slow guide issue on the Gateway systems was introduced with the last firmware update. They are supposedly working on a fix.....though it's taking some time. (Where I would have simply rolled back the update, they chose to let people suffer....for months...)

insync44 Have my new Arris XG1 operating alongside my DCX3400. The latter is swift and easy to operate. The Arris's Guide looks like it was designed by the Marquis De Sade. The Guide excruciatingly slow and sometimes vanishes completely when I scroll fast. Its only saving grace is the my Extender finally works and the ability to record 6 channels. Still undecided whether to return to BB.

andyk Shaw is not suggesting it as a workaround. They have failed to even comment on it. A user noticed it and a few of us chose to use it as a workaround. A fix is still being tested.

North_of_Calgary Maybe so but it's ridiculous to think that in order to be able to properly see the EPG without waiting 10-120 seconds one has to page through a list or 100's of channels they don't subscribe to.

It's inexcusable to suggest some other customer inconvenience as a workaround to what is fundamentally catastrophically bad programming. Shame on Shaw for putting out such crap and after doing so, not fixing the situation sooner.

Nanuuk On the Shaw Support forum, a user has offered that the reason for the slowness of the guide is due to the channel list being filtered. He has suggested that even if one channel is hidden the algorithm being used by the guide can't handle it. I have since 'unhidden' the channels that I do not subscribe to and have noticed an improvement. Might be my imagination though.

North_of_Calgary Add your complaints / comments in the Shaw site's community forum so at just they see how many people are unhappy with these things. Shaw obviously doesn't moderate this forum but they do their own so it's worth also posting there

spitoon It has become dreadfully slow...especially if you are trying to jump through the guide.

Hopefully they find a fix...

Nanuuk One would like to think they have test scripts to follow for the software and any upgrades. With results measured and recorded for each test cycle. My wife and I had also noticed the slowness of the guide, but didn't make the connection to the firmware upgrade. Glad I found this thread.
