denben73 According to the digital migration portion of their site, everything should be digital only by now all over Ontario.

Here in Windsor, I have no idea if that message ever existed. All I've seen since mid-February, when I finally got a line installed near the computer, was a set of colour bars on analog channels 3, 14, 58 & 70. It probably did, but never was connected when it happened.

This is interesting though. It could be the reason for the 2 month delay for the addition of more HD versions for CNN, HLN and possibly others. They may be giving time for the messages to stay up on those systems that just had their analog service turned off.

Cogeco Cable Kingston - Analog & QAM changes - seen & noted

This is now being shown on COGECO Cable Kingston - prior Analog Channels.

[ image/picture taken off TV screen: Fri April 24, 2015 ]

i.e. The Analog Cable TV channels - here in Kingston - are out of service now, and I assume the actual ANALOG shutdown is in progress / near future - here in Kingston on COGECO CABLE - Kingston.

[ ha ha - the COGECO "Black Screen of DEATH" ] luv it.

bigoranget That was prior to September 2011. After September 2011 when the analog licenses and category 1 channels became Category A channels, the requirement to reach 85% was eliminated.

CamDAB alebowgm, That percentage is 85% if memory serves me correctly.

jbamford There are only three analog channels remaining in my neighbourhood in oakville. They're all test patterns.

alebowgm If memory serves, the BDUs have to send an application into the CRTC and get approval to
"turn off" analog cable once they hit a certain percentage of digital subs. Otherwise, they have to keep the basic/lifeline analog cable package active.

bigoranget According to Cogeco's website there is still a few analog channels in Oakville, Burlington area.

mike marshall We're in Oakville, Digital Select 1 SD subs. Cogeco Web site says the analog channels are gone as of yesterday (July 4) but we're still getting the "Classic" channels on our (yes, it's yesterday's tech) VCR. I thought we'd lose that option as analog is phased out. Perhaps we still will.
It would be nice to be able to continue recording at least those channels as long as our main TV is still a CRT.

cableredneck We are still getting some clear QAM channels in analogue and digital. We are in Burlington.

Cogeco Removing Analog Basic Cable

Cogeco is starting to remove the remaining analog channels from their service and migrating the remaining analog customers to digital.

It appears that Burlington and Oakville have been completed. Can anyone who lives in Burlington or Oakville confirm if that is the case? Also is there any "nightlight" channels remaining such as a preview channel or information channel on how to upgrade?

Here is the migration schedule.

cableredneck I can't see Cogeco cancelling someone's service because they would lose money. I believe the adapters and receivers are free for now. CamDAB is probably correct in assuming that older viewers, and those less technically inclined, will have trouble with the receivers and adapters.

CamDAB ^^^ The thin edge of the wedge is in the second paragraph of the last post by cableredneck.

The fact that the obvious isn't stated in the physical letter will catch, particularly older viewers, by surprise. It's no secret that many just don't (or can't) understand the nuances of all these technical changes and end up after some automatic rule / change takes place, a mass of confusion takes place.

And how about those who ONLY have analogue service... Will Cogeco hit them with a cancellation fee on top of the final bill when they don't understand things?

Poor marketing and communication I think...

I'd expect that if they know you don't have at least a digital adapter, you're not going to be receiving TV from them. In that case, charging for something a customer is not getting might be considered fraud.
2013-05-18 06:56 PM
CamDAB In a Cogeco mailing received yesterday is a request for those who are using analogue TV's to put in an order for digital adapters / receivers by July 1st 2013.

A complete cessation of analogue broadcasting via Cogeco Cable will commence July 22nd 2013 in our area (east Hamiltion / Stoney Creek).

FYI

A zinger (not) in the letter, but on the web site for those don't read all the way though things:

"Important: Please be aware that if you do not accept delivery of the digital adapter and migration from the Classic Cable TV service to the new digital Classic Pack, we will be obligated to remove TV service from your Cogeco subscription."
