Smoothfonzo Yeah, I know what you mean. The more I see him, the more he looks restrained and uncomfortable. And that's not just from Conan, but everywhere else I've seen him interviewed. He doesn't make a very good interview because he never seems to have much enthusiasm. Well, except for the part when asked about a new Indiana Jones.

I saw an interview with him from around the time Indy 4 was in theatres and I could pretty much tell from that interview that the movie wouldn't be very good, because they hardly talked about it at all, and mostly other stuff, yet he was there to promote it.

Francois Caron At least Harrison Ford and Rosario Dawson's appearance should make up for the presence of Saget. p:

BTW, what's with Ford? He's getting creepier and creepier every time he shows up! They talk about kids and schools, and his face looked like what you would find on a Wanted poster!

Smoothfonzo The weak point seems to be the guests. There are a lot of nights where the guests simply don't interest me. I usually look at an upcoming guest list to figure out the nights I want to watch. I mean, come on. Bob Saget is going to be on next Wednesday. And the only musical guest interesting me within this week and the next are the Decemberists on Thursday. I don't see a way to see the guest list on Conan's website, so that may be why. But I'm getting my info from here, which tends to be very handy:

Lindsay649 Watched the first two shows and will leave up to the demographics that enjoy Conan's type of humour. It wears off quickly.

Francois Caron The Hoarder was classic Conan! That was probably the creepiest character the show has ever introduced! That face! Those eyes! Those shifting eyes!

The rest of Thursday's show was also classic Conan. Quirky guests, effects not working right (Andy's green shirt gaffe might have been an accident), some reasonably funny skits... It felt more than ever that the old show was finally back on TV.

If Conan manages to maintain a younger audience of two million per show, that would be music to the advertisers. And with only four shows per week, that would give the crew some time to develop decent shows and not try to do too much at once.

With Week 1 behind him, how will Conan fare now?

NEW YORK – Conan O'Brien has finished his first week on TBS with a hefty sampling by a remarkably younger-skewing audience.

Thursday's show drew 2 million viewers, less than half the number who gathered for his much-awaited, much-promoted debut on Monday, according to the Nielsen Co.

Vinyl Sorry fans this show might not last too long IMO.
I caught the three episodes – the only original thing may be the backdrop – besides his jump up at the beginning and the hip swivel thing (don’t know what it means) what exactly does he do?

hugh I don't follow it much anymore but I assume Leno gets a lot of guests from NBC shows and NBC Universal Studio movies which gives him a leg up.

Jase88 I for one don't like change when it comes to the late night talk show format.

james99 I'm sure the quality of week ones guests will be much better than weeks 2 and 3.

hugh A big factor not mentioned here is the Guests he gets on.

you always here stories about guests who aren't invited back on to one late night show because they went on a competitors show.

While each late night host has a core following, ultimately you need interesting and timely guests to juice the ratings.

jem I wasn't impressed by the first night at all. I think he blew an opportunity to come up with something new and original in a talk show. It can be done, just look at Strombolopolous. His show is intellegent, funny and most of all interesting.

Francois Caron Quick correction. The host that follows Conan is George Lopez of Lopez Tonight, and not Paul Rodriguez. I got my names mixed up.

Francois Caron Just saw the second episode. It was very good. Very Conan. A couple of funny skits, some interesting guests, and an obscure but very decent musical guest. In fact, it's one of the few talk shows where I actually take the time to listen to the musical guest because they're often the type of group that will NEVER get any airtime on any Top 40 radio station.

Didn't see that joke with Tom Hanks coming even though I knew something was suppose to happen.

smootherator 85% of homes seems rather high for a specialty channel.

Tough to say...then again his target demographic usually has jobs after college and cant stay up as long as they would like anymore lol.

Either way his numbers end up I'm sure TBS is thrilled to have a show on their network bringing in those kinds of numbers.

The numbers that Colbert and Daily show get are small in comparison to Leno and Jay but are considered very good for a cable channel.

TBS gets its money from subscription therefore its a little less reliant on ratings as the networks are.
