FYI - Google Maps: Midlet vs. CAB
Interesting finding here for anyone who is playing around with Google Maps (on HTC Touch with latest ROM incl WM6.1 and GPS):
Found that if I navigate to m.google.com/maps using Opera 9.5 beta that it would install a Google Maps Midlet application. The Midlet seems quite limited - doesn't respond to the stylus, and is unable to determine my location by GPS.
However, if I navigate to the same page using either PIE or Opera 8.65, then it downloads a CAB and installs as a stand alone program. This version works much better, has more options, is faster, and determines my location from the GPS in seconds. (And of course responds to the stylus!)
It's interesting that for Opera 9.5 Google thinks you need a Midlet instead. Likely more of an Opera thing than anything else. Still a recommendation to anyone using Windows Mobile: use the CAB instead of the Midlet - Midlet seems to have been designed for non-WM smartphones.
