Call display -cellphones to landlines?

Is there any way that we can figure out which cell phone is calling our landline? They all say private number but is there any way we can "mark" our family's cell phone number so when the parents call home, the kids know they can pick it up?

The calling-line ID (CLID) should be sent to your home phone unless it is blocked. Call your cell-phone provider and ask to have your CLID unblocked.

If the CLID is blocked, there is no way to do anything like you suggest. The only alternative is to come up with a "code". Call your home and let it ring once or twice. Hang up. Call right back. Teach the kids this. Alternatively, you could hook up an answering machine and when it answers, talk and your kids will hear you. You could say "Pick up the phone".

Just some ideas.

the only other way is if the phone (Mostly cordless) itself has an address book and you can add names and numbers manually.

That won't help. If the CLID is blocked, the phone will not receive the number and will still display "Private Number" even if it is programmed into the directory.

oops, missed the private number. Sorry

My suggestion if the number is unblocked but no name is shown. So that the receiver can see who is calling without having to think who has that number.

Not sure who your cell provider is, but GSM phones have an option to block/unblock the outgoing number. Check and see if this is turned on by default with your phone.

Thanks

I'm going to try checking the CLID. Easy enough to do.

Thanks very much.
