Advice Request: Adding iPhone to $30 Family Plan

Hello All;
Can you please give me some advice on what I need and/or don't need to add an iPhone to my family plan. I only receive appr. 10 emails a day, and 2 or 3 voice messages. I wouldn't be a heavy internet user, but I read on here that the data piles up pretty quickly. After being a Rogers user for many years, they still confuse the hell out of me.
Thank you in advance,

Mick

IMO, your best bets are probably to:

-call Rogers CSR and/or retentions and inquire about options for your current plan
-wait until the initial frenzy dies down and see if they alter their existing plans or offer new ones.

Members on another forum are claiming that Rogers/Fido will be offering new plans/prices after July 24th.
If you are familiar with cell phone companies and their plans, then you know nothing is set in stone. Companies seem to be sticking to their policies a little more when it comes to the iPhone, however.

Won't hurt to call though! Let us know when you do

As far as I know, the iPhone is not eligible on family plans at all. Don't quote me on this, but you may want to check into this to save yourself any further pondering.

Hello All

I was able to add the iPhone to my $20.00 per month family plan, $199.00 for the 8 GIG phone, even qualified for the $50.00 rebate. I retained all the benefits of the family plan, added the $30.00/6 gig data plan and the $15.00 value pack.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all your quick replies. It is much appreciated. Leo has opened a door for me that hopefully I'll be able to walk through.

But were you forced to take the $15 value pack? I was told the minimum package was $35 - sounds like $20 family + $15 value pack to me. That makes the iphone data package $45 a month, $540/yr over the family plan (which is already like $336 a year once the 'service fee' is added in as it should be). All told, throw in our taxes, $1000 a year for the iphone.

I mean its a cool device, but when I look at it practically I don't see that kind of bang for my buck. With my phone usage I could easily go with the $100 pay as you go plans, get better features and pay less. What would be nice is a pay as you go data plan with similar usage fees as the 6G/month plans - even $10/GB would be fine, would probably need about $200 all told per year ($100 for voice, $100 for data). I guess I'll stick with my ipod touch and not get web/mail access unless I have wifi access. Would be nice not to carry 2 devices and I'd actually like an external speaker (you can't really share a youtube video and hand over your earbuds - ick!). Time to head over to Rogers and cancel the family plan for a pay as you go voice at least - the gouging on the iphone is really getting me to look for any way to take back money from Ted - or maybe I should just plain go to a competitor.

I was not forced to add the $15.00 value pack. I requested that it be added
