Another advice for maps, you can buy or rent a handheld GPS, which will come pre-loaded or you can download the map of the country/continent you are travelling to. I remember one of my jobs back in the day needed to track co-ordinates and we used the handheld device and it worked very well it had all the streets and roads labelled. and it was portible, ran on two AA batteries.
