Oppo is a Chinese electronics company less that 10 years old.

Its name started making rounds when Secrets' gave its DVD player a higher rating than the Denons and Pioneers priced 3-4 times more.
And it established itself as the best value optical player after Lexicon literally put their BD player in its own casing and charged $3000 more!

This was the final nail in the coffin of US OEM: they were not only impotents, they were crooks...

Oppo is doing smartphones now.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/12/o...080p-variants/

And just like with optical players, you can't buy their wares in the local BestBuy or corner electronics shop.
But if you do run across one of their phones, you will probably not regret ever giving them a chance to be your daily driver...

Despite folding its Bada into Tizen, Samsung might be less committed to push Tizen after signing a deal with Google.
But that does not mean the OS has been left out in the cold. In fact, the Tizen Association just gained 15 more members
http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/13/t...aidu-softbank/

So, if bad comes to worse and Android would need to be abandoned for whatever reason (legal challenges,
Google dictatorship, political maneuvering, etc.) there is already something in place to fall back to.

Intel might have had something to do with keeping this light on...

Sailfish, the descendant of the (almost) stillborn MeeGo, to be updated soon

Best part:

As Sailfish OS is compatible with commonly available Android hardware platforms and apps,
it also caters to users that seek a new experience or to re-discover an older Android device.

That seems to be true only when talking about smartphones.
And even then, Samsung did show what a Tizen phone looks like
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsu...ne-is-revealed

But there are no reasons to suspect more from Samsung at this time
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsu...tphone_id53069

And just like LG trying to use webOS on their TVs, so will Samsung with Tizen...

Meizu - another Chinese smartphone manufacturer with big
aspirations, is expected to do the same in Paris in two days
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Meizu...ch-6th_id53450

By the end of the year, 6 Chinese companies - Lenove, Huawei, ZTE, Oppo, Xiaomi and Meizu -
might end up in the top 10 smartphone makers. The first 3 are in the top 6 already...

Samsung, Qualcomm, Mediatek, Huawei...
Apple and Intel are the only "smart" ones left.

The first smartphone to use the full octa-core Mediatek CPU is Xiaomi's Redmi Note
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Xiaom...hablet_id53998
The AnTuTu benchmark puts it in the Galaxy S4 ballpark...

And there are reasons to suspect LG G3 will use the same
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Purpo...cessor_id53979
That in turn could mean the next Nexus might use one as well...

Another Chinese "underdog" setting its eyes on Xiaomi
http://www.engadget.com/2014/03/18/i...ne-ultrapixel/

HTC One level specs on a smartphone under $300.
With an (almost) stock Android OS. Sounds interesting...
