Motorola announces the $179 [outright] Moto G

Quote:
Following the expansion of its Moto Maker service and a price drop for the Moto X earlier this week, Motorola today announced the Moto G, a new low-cost entry-level smartphone for global markets. The Moto G doesn't skimp on features, but Motorola is selling it for a rock-bottom price: $179 unlocked and without contract. The company says that its partners plan to offer it for even less.
The Verge

Telus/Koodo have already confirmed that they will have it for $200 outright.

If I read the specs correctly it wouldn't work on Wind. Too bad, it would have made a good christmas present for a teen I know.

I've seen reports of it having AWS and reports that it doesn't. I'd wait for official word from Motorola or someone who can actually test it.

The US variant might have AWS. They're planning to sell it unlocked via the moto website in the US. There would be no point in doing that if it only supported HSPA on AT&T.

I'm pretty annoyed that this phone is only available on Koodo and Telus in Canada. Why do Canadian consumers always get the short end of the stick?

Anyways, I'm thinking of buying this phone from Amazon UK. Right now I can pre-order the 16GB version for about $277 CDN with all shipping and taxes (even includes a customs deposit).

Anyone think this is a decent price? I figure that when (or even if) the 16GB model comes to Canada it might be $249.99-ish so adding tax and unlock (I want to use it with Virgin) on top of that puts it well over $280 CDN.

First make sure it will work here. I don't know if they use the same frequency bands as here.

I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

It has UMTS 850/1900, so it should be fine.

They were going for $75 at the Mobile Shop this weekend ($150 + $75 gift certificate) and getting good reviews from buyers. I bought one for my wife for Christmas, but haven't received it yet. Delivered price from Koodo is $150+tax.

I'm considering this phone, and am new to Android.
Can an android phone have more than one mailbox? (gmail and a hotmail, for instance.)

Yes. There is a native Gmail app but there are many other email apps that can support multipe POP/IMAP mail accounts.

Android rocks!

Thanks, anyone know if a unmolested (no koodo or Telus) 16 GB version is going to be available in Canada for outright purchase? There was only an 8 GB version available from koodo or Telus last week, the option was there for outright purchase, but I'd rather have no carrier logos showing up, or any of their bloatware.

Concerning the email app. Definitely check out K-9 Mail. It's free and it's community driven, meaning no ads.
