I'd love to buy one of these outright, but can't afford it at the moment. I'm probably going to settle on re-signing with my current provider and getting a Galaxy S4 for $159 on 2 yr term. My gut tells me I shouldn't re-sign, and just go month to month. So I may try to restrain myself and put cash aside until I have enough.

I'm not good at figuring out all this little stuff, but how do you get $100? The monthly fee? Aren't most plans averaging 50-75?

How much of the phone cost could be buried in the plan when carriers (some?) offer only 10% off for BYOD?

Sorry if these sound like dumb question. Thanks

way more that 10% but the PITA is that after the 2 years passes the rates do not drop..

On average your 15-20$/month for the phone part of the monthly fee...

If you use all the features the smartphone has to offer - text, internet, voice - the plans start at $70

My plan, including HST, comes to $65.07/month. It includes 6 GB data, unlimited SMS, 200 weekday minutes, unlimited evenings (6PM) & weekends, call display with name display, call forwarding & transfer and My10, a list of 10 numbers, anywhere in Canada, that I have unlimited minutes for and they don't even count against my minutes.

I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

That's a legacy plan, no? I don't think you can get that with a two year contract today...

Rogers, 2 smart phones, same plan (after saying I was going to Wind) Unlimited Canada Wide minutes, SMS/MMS Canada, enhanced VM, 1 GB data $45.00 + HST

Because of wifi, rarely do we go over a GB.

You got two premium smartphones on two-year contracts with that plan?

Anything from the days of three year contacts is irrelevant because those plans are not available anymore

So if you get a subsidized phone you probably won't be able to keep that but if you buy your own direct from Google you will - right?

I bought my current phone, a Nexus 1, from Google. I'd do the same again.

@TorontoColin.. yes 2 phones, same rate plan for each. Both total $45.20 each per month. No contract on either Wife has S4 and I have a Galaxy Nexus.. waiting.. for my N5 to get shipped. Of course I'll need a new SIM, but that should be painless. Don't mind paying $20/$30 for a Sim if they leave the plans alone, phones are buyouts. No subsidy

See if you can get the SIM replaced for free, or at least have it cut down to microSIM size with a SIM cutter. An independent phone outlet might do this for you for less than $5.

DON'T pay $20 to $30 for a SIM! Those things cost the carriers less than 10 cents each.
