Anyone have any advice on getting a prepaid microSIM for an iPad (or an iPhone) in Hong Kong? My experience is that mobile service is pretty cheap in HK so I am guessing that I could pick up a microSIM from a carrier like 3 that would cost far less than in Canada?
I tried 3's English language HK website but it doesn't seem to be working properly.
I bought a 3 HK SIM/ microsim rechargable card at the Apple store at the IFC mall in HK for HK$198 (about $26 Canadian). You can also get these cards at 3 shops and at some (all?) 7-11s - these store are on pretty much every block in HK.
Data costs are $2/MB but max out at $18/day. That means that the card will last you for 11 days, and they don't have to be consecutive although I think the card will expire in about 6 months. The data appears to be unlimited but I haven't really pushed that, apparently once you hit 5GB in a month your speed may be throttled down to 128kbps if the networkis busy.
Running speedtest on my iPad I get about 2 Mbps up and down.
This card also works in my Sierra Wireless 754S 3G hotspot with an apn of imobile.three.com.hk.
