I know that HP's announcement regarding their future plans was very convoluted but I'm sure they said that they were discontinuing the hardware running WebOS but that the WebOS software will continue to be developed.

Whether this translates to updates for the now discontinued hardware is what I'm curious about.

HP has said there will be an update for the touchpad soon.
Whether there are more after that.. nobody knows.

But webOS (software) itself is not dead, just HP's hardware division for webOS.

As long as it records and plays video, or just displays pictures, I don't care if it does nothing else. It will still have been a bargain.

Im just crossing my fingers to get mine soon. The OS is the least of my concern XDA developers are all over this thing, Already Android 2.3 has been ported... and more to come.

HP where is my touchpad?

It seems as the homebrew community had already fixed some problems before the first WebOS update so I would imagine they will be providing patches and such going forward as well.

There have been all kinds of fixes by the homebrew community so far. It's nice. But boy, this device is a bit of a disappointment so far. PDF rendering is terrible. They make it so you can't zoom in very far, to make it faster to move around a PDF. But there's no point in moving around fast if you can't read anything! The one homebrew hack turns PDF's into a higher res picture, so you can zoom in more. But the initial rendering takes longer.

I pointed out shortcomings but I knew I was buying a limited tablet. I will be happy overall to be able to work with most web sites, read my email(google, telus, other). That's all I will need for a short Hawaii or whatever vacation in the future and it will certainly be more convenient than carrying the old laptop on a plane. For that purpose or just browsing and checking mail at home it is more than worth the price to me.
Just ordered the charger accessory so it must be worth more than the original price.

Mine shipped yesterday

Only a month after ordering, but I'll finally be getting one.

And you thought you weren't getting one. Mine, 140xxx, also shipped on Friday but I helped myself by buying all the accessories.

I'm still waiting for HP to ship mine. They said they would ship this week but nothing so far.
Maybe by Thanksgiving I guess...

WebOS is cool just no apps which is fine by me, as long as web surfing and most streaming video work ok, I'm a happy camper. It will be perfect for road trips from Peel to Montreal or NY.

I bought one from a friend at HP and was playing with it today. Very nice device....

If anyone's order gets cancelled, I would be interested in buying any accessories you might have.

Update to my post #133: My order shipped on Thursday the 15th and was delivered on the 16th. Unfortunately I was not home and I was unable to get it until today after work. Looking forward to trying it out!

Do any of you who have the TouchPad have any trouble accessing hotmail.com? When I try to open hotmail, I get an error page. Works fine for Shaw webmail.
