Apple stores taking appointments for 3GS

If you have an apple store where you live, you can book an appointment for launch day to pretty much guarantee your new iphone. I booked one for 9:00 Friday!

In Alberta most, if not all Rogers stores will be opening at 8AM MST as well and stock is VERY plentiful so most shouldn't worry. The Apple store has just announced they are selling the phones on contracts under Rogers & Fido & I wouldn't expect them to run out of stock if you can't find a phone anywhere else.

I got an email from Apple yesterday that said they are going to be selling it and had the link to make an appointment. I made one for 1PM but don't know if I can get away. If not I'll try Rogers later. I would prefer to get it at the Apple store if I can.

Yes, that would be new for Canada. Until this week they only had models to display and referred clients to Rogers/Fido to sign-up. Selling at the Apple store makes sense given that no-contract sales will be possible for the 3G S. Now it would be really nice if the phones were unlocked (so they could be used on the Belus UTMS network) but I know I am only fantasizing.

Working today is brutal...sales systems are down and call-in times are exceeding 30+ mins, anyone who's planning on getting one today I urge to be patient as we don't have any control over the slow process of activations. I expect things to speed up later on in the day after the early-birds recieve their hardware and the line-ups die down.

How things change over the course of a year. Last year people were camping outside of stores. Lines were still out the door at noon hour.

Today, none of that in downtown Toronto.

Hardly any press coverage as well.

Got mine today at the Apple store in Edmonton. Lots of delays caused by the system crashing repeatedly, but I sort of expected that today. The store was full when I got there at 8:00, and about 15 people in line. I noticed on my drive to the mall that there were a few people sitting outside some Rogers stores waiting for them to open. My appt was for 9, but didnt get into the store until about 9:30. Got out of there about 11 or so. Still about 20 people lined up as I left.

Interesting that just about everyone in the store seemed to already have a 3G, and were planning on paying the full upgrade price. This is my first iphone.

I had to get back to work this PM, so havent played around much, just enought to annoy the 3G owners.
