Unhappy What is number Portablity?

I have a home VOIP phone line which I am using. I cannot use that number as a mobile?

I have a prepaid mobile phone, I cannot transfer that prepaid number to a regular mobile plan I already have?

So what is number portablity? Home phone to Home phone only? Prepaid to prepaid only? or is the company giving me hogwash stories!!!

There's LNP and WNP for Local and Wireless Number portability respectively. They're supposed to be interchangeable;

One caveat with VOIP is that your phone number doesn't have to be in your local NPA (e.g. you could technically live in Canada and have a UK or San Francisco phone #). In that case, such a number would not be transferrable to a Canadian area-code land/mobile service.

I'd say it's hogwash.

Number portability is just that, shouldn't matter from where to where.

The only limit to be aware of is fixed landlines can't have numbers that don't belong to the region, so if you are in say Montreal, you can't bring your Toronto phone number to a fixed landline. That said, there's nothing stopping you from using a VOIP provider instead. I moved out of the city but thanks to Vonage I still have my city number.
