My New HTPC Build

Hello!

First off, I want to start by saying I have been reading this forum for a while now and find the people on here extremely knowledgeable. It seems to be one of the better forums going right now! I decided to jion up and start posting!

I recently undertook my first HTPC build (only my second PC build ever..) and here is a quick list of components I went with:

Thermaltake DH101 case
Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP mobo
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHZ
Antec Neo HE550 HE 550W PS
Corsair XMS2 2X1GB 6400C4 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500G SATA2 HD
Asus GeForce 8500T 512MB Silent Passive Video Card
WinTV HVR1600
LG GGC-H20L BRD/HDDVD SATA2 combo drive
HT Omega Striker 7.1 Sound Card
Thermaltake Blue Orb II CPU cooler
Vista Home Premium 32bit OS
Logitech Z-5500 speakers

It took me a while to figure out what was the best combo for what I wanted to do and this seemed like a good fit. My goal was to put something together that would work with the latest technology and replace all of my current HT components PLUS add Blu-Ray capability. Any comments on the above would be appreciated!

I am planning to pair this unit up with a SC HD505 receiver for PVR recording only. I am not too concerned with running the HD505 signal through the HTPC for regular TV viewing as I will connect the HD505 directly to one of the the LCD HDMI ports and run the S/PDIF or D/Coax signal from the box directly to Logitech Z-5500 control head. For recording purposes I will run S-video from the HD505 to the tuner card. I havn't decided on audo input yet as I have S/PDIF input capability on the Omega Striker or RCA input on the 1600.

Now that I have it up and running I have a few questions that hopefully some of you can answer.

1. The Thermaltake case came with it's own Media Lab system to run the VFD and supplied remote. This works off the iMon utility. It also came with iMedian software. Does anyone have any experiece with this setup for recording TV?

2. I have been playing with MCE but find the Thermatake remote does not control all the functions in MCE, I assume I would have to purchase a MCE remote & IR receiver for best MCE control? How about recording in MCE? How about VFD display control while using MCE?

3. The software that came with the WinTV tuner card also has capability to record TV programs, how does it rate?

4. I assume I will need some type of IR blaster setup to control the HD505 for recording purposes. I see the 1600 has a port on it for an IR receiver/blaster. Will the type of blaster I need be defined by what software I use for recording? Any suggestions on a good IR blaster to work with the HD505?

Thanks for any and all input!
