Hi, this post is a solution to a port forwarding issue that I had after being switched over to Infinet with an Actiontec router.
Prior to being switched over I had DSL service with 2WireGateway router. I also had Axis Video server for my birdcam configured with a static IP outside of the DHCP range of the 2Wiregateway router. I then used port standard forwarding to get access to my birdcam from the outside world.
After being switched to Infinet with Actiontec router I used the same process (static IP on the Axix Video server) but port forwarding would not work, I consulted a friend of mine and we tried a few other things to no avail. We finally descided to configure the Axis Video server for DHCP assignment. We noted the assigned IP and did the port forwading, and lo and behold port forwarding now works. Port forwarding is done at: Firewall/ Port Forwarding. My buddy seems to think that in the newer routers port forwarding only works with DHCP served IP addresses, not sure if that is true but it fixed my issue. That brings up another point, eventually the IP is going to change and port forwarding will no longer work correctly. To get around this, the Actiontec has the ability to reserve a DHCP IP address to a MAC address, you can do this at: Advanced Configuration/DHCP Reservation
Hopefully this helps some one.
