Just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with the new remotes. Since my "upgrade" on Thursday I can't use the IR extenders. Remotes work fine against box but not through extenders. Has anyone figured out how to fix. I am running a speakercraft system with the extenders. Thanks in advance
Is it possibly an IR interference issue? This has happened before with firmware updates that affect the sensitivity of the IR "eye" circuitry. Different remotes can respond differently and extenders can be more susceptible. See the following thread on that topic:
Thanks for the help, it certainly could be that. I phoned Sasktel and they were less than helpful, not really their fault I guess. I did find out the remote is a motorola MXv3 if that's of any use. Could it be due to the type of IR signal that is being sent?
The make/model of the IR remote is essentially irrelevant - each situation is unique. Do the tests in the link I provided. What's the make/model of the TV? Has it been calibrated - at least turn off the OPC-type setting? When you turn the TV off, does the problem stop, etc.
Here are some tips for anyone looking at remote control extenders. This is based on what I've read on AT&T U-verse forums over the last couple of years. U-verse uses the same hardware and software and has over 2 million subs, so it's a good resource for more unusual situations.
The Mediaroom set-top-boxes use a carrier frequency of around 60 KHz while many IR extenders only repeat frequencies in the 40 KHz range. One product that users have reported success with is the Hot Link Pro.
I haven't tried a remote extender personally.
There is also a thread in the Bell Fibe TV forum where someone tried a standard remote extender unsuccessfully before getting everything working with the Hot Link Pro.
My guess is that the old remote used 40 KHz, the new remote uses 60 KHz and your extender doesn't support 60 KHz.
