According from the tech it's disabled.

Rob
I think it depends on your cable company. So the tech guy says it is disabled, I'd assume it is disabled but I'd double check just in case the tech guy is not knowledgable.

I remember that when DCX3400 came out, my cable company disabled the feature. Now, it is enabled and advertises that you can use Expander to add more storage.

noisy DCX3400?

Does anyone else notice their DCX3400 making a constant, subtle-but-audible "clackety-clack" noise when powered on? It sounds like the hard drive heads or something like that. It's low, but definitely audible in an otherwise quiet room. My box works fine in every respect; it's just a tad noisy?

That's why my home-built networked DVR has a diskless computer in the living room. All of the loud hard disks are in my office where they don't annoy anybody. The CPU fan in the living room computer only turns on when the computer is working hard. It's a nearly silent box, and only gets turned on when I watch something, so its completely silent most of the time.

My 3400 DVR is completely silent, I cannot hear it at all when the room is completely quiet.

Once you go Plasma you will never go back.

Model of esata drive

Hi:

Can you tell me the model of the esata drive that you successfully used on the 3400?

I have tried unsuccessfully with an enclosure and a Seagate sata Drive. The 3400 refused to format drive coming up with an error--Alert 05(I think).

Thanks,

Another Model of esata drive

I am using the Western Digital My Book AV DVR Expander 1TB without any problems. It was easy to hook up, just click 'ok' to reformat. It cost me $120.00. It looks nice (black) and is quiet with a small light. I bought it as it seemed to be designed for this use, although I suspect any esata hard drive may do the trick. The difficulty was finding it in the store. It is located with the cable boxes and not with the external hard drives. I am in Halifax.

I'm using an enclosure and a 1TB Western Digital drive. For some reason I think the max drive that the DVR will recognize is 1 TB but I don't know for sure so don't quote me on that.

Shaw PVR Expander

Hi:

Is the 1 TB PVR Expander from Shaw compatible with an Eastlink 3400 DVR?
Has anyone tried it?

Thanks,

Hi,

If the Shaw expander is the Western Digital (I think it is) than I say yes, since it works according to Hfx45

I wonder if it would work with a hard drive dock like a Vantec or Thermaltake?

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Products.aspx?C=1346

Then we could swap drives out though we'd have to power off the PVR to swap the drive.

You guys would probably benefit from some of the threads in the Shaw forum, the external hard drive issues on DCX, DCTs etc have been extensively discussed there.
