Doesn't it just resume after some time, like the 8300 does?

Yes it does, but by then the damage is done.

Can you take the wife back to a Rogers store and exchange her for a new one?

Nextbox 3.0 Manage Series Recordings

Is there any way to manage all series recordings that have been set up on my Nextbox? I know that if an episode of the series is due to be recorded within the next week it'll show up by pressing the list button twice... But I was wondering if it was available anywhere else where I can see all series, even those without episodes airing during the next week?

luk3yd: Sure, go to the list for scheduled recordings (list twice) and use the right arrow to see the list by date, title, channel and by TV series..

See the links in post 1 for more info on how to use the system and other information. The first link has the information you requested as the last FAQ.

How long have we been able to remove a single recording from a series? Has this always been part of RTN?

When using my PVR I always did a lot of single recordings, or timeslot series recordings. Lately though they've been changing the start times of some of the series I watch by a minute or two, so the timeslot recordings would not have recorded and I've changed them to "any time" recordings. (Colbert, Masters of Sex) I then saw that there were 8 scheduled recordings of Colbert instead of the usual 4 (when sorted by date) and I noticed that I could click on one of the scheduled recordings and delete it without affecting any other recordings of the same series.

This means at the start of the week I can delete 4 of the Colbert scheduled recordings before the duplicate recordings occur. I also deleted several duplicates of my anytime recordings that occur several times a week instead of just once. I know that with SARA, this would have deleted the whole series. Has it always been this flexible with RTN, or is this something new?

Is anyone else having the following issues with the new firmware when viewing the recorded list "by title"?
Yes, until a recent firmware update, deleting ANY recorded show meant the recorded list "By Title" was buggered until I power cycled.

Since the update now I can happily delete any program I want, without fear of being locked in a, cannot navigate past blank recording issue. Which is to say, it's working as it should now.

Hardly an enhancement, but certainly an improvement.

I noticed that I was able to delete single instances of a series a while back...it seems to me that it was before the most recent firmware update but I'm not sure exactly when

57 - The "Cancel this recording" option from Scheduled recordings has been there as long as I can remember. Though I usually never use that option - best to record multiple copies and delete afterwards, in case of problems with a recording.

Thumbs down Just when I thought I'd seen all annoyances with the 9865

Well, thought I'd seen just about every annoyance Rogers could toss at us, but no.
Playing back Conan on my 9865 (recorded on my 9865 at 1:37a today on Ch.518) I found that the following buttons will not work on this recording:
- back 8 seconds (to left of List button)
- Page + and Page - (forwards/backwards 3 minutes)
- when I press Stop, then Resume Play this recording ALWAYS starts playing again from the start
(Fast forward & Rewind do work).

Other recordings made before and after Conan, on the same PVR, work normally.

Just tried and found I can't even play back that program from my 4642 (get the usual, Sorry "Conan" on LIVING ROOM cannot be viewed right now. The program may have been deleted or there may not enough resources available).
Rebooting the 9865 made no difference to playback modes, and it still won't play back form the 4642.

A wild guess - maybe this recording (01:37-02:42 - I extend it by 5 mins) was somehow messed up because it was recording during the usual Tuesday/Friday morning update?

57 - I agree with Neil that the "Cancel this recording" option of a single episode from a program series in Scheduled recordings has been there for as long as I can remember - at least a year.

I actually use this feature fairly often - because some programs that record 5 days a week often have repeats on Sunday nights or Friday nights - and this is more often the case with recordings that happen after midnight - so the weekday cycle is messed up and the program may be set to record at 2 am on Monday morning (late Sunday night) at a time when some other program is actually recording. An example of this is TMZ - which I record at midnight every night during the weekdays - but it tries to record late Sunday night at midnight - but there is no TMZ playing then - but it still records during that time anyways - so I go in manually and delete that instance of the series recording in Scheduled Recordings.

I hope I've explained this in a manner that can be understood.

In addition to the previously mentioned issues, I've been noticing a lot more guide corruption with the latest update. Series recordings that are set to record are frequently not indicated in the guide (no overlapping circles symbol.) Checking the recordings list indicates they are scheduled to be recorded. This can, and has, led to a number of duplicate recordings and/or error messages about duplicate timers being set. I also had an instance where the guide data was totally incorrect. The wrong shows were listed for the channels listed in the left column.

Swapped out our old Nextbox 2.0 for a 3.0 version the other day. The painfully slow GUI on the 2.0 was driving our whole family nuts and often we were hitting the "too many recordings at the same time" issue due to only 2 tuners. Very refreshing to see the fast GUI on the 3.0 edition and the 8-tuners should clear up the recordings conflict issue.

So far, so good with the new box. Sounds like the most recent firmware update has fixed a lot of the issues so I'm jumping in at the right time.

My only grief with it is the front display is crazy intense blue and hard to actually read/focus on unless you are right in front of it. Oh well.

I recently received the too many recordings message with the 9865. It turned out that the guide timer corruption issue combined with the timer channel switching issue had led to multiple recordings of several programs. I had thought that the timer channel switching issue was fixed but it's back again, with a vengeance, since the Fall new programming season started.
