Is anyone else having the following issues with the new firmware when viewing the recorded list "by title"?

First, I have a scrolling issue. When I "page up" I can no longer select a show to play - nothing is highlighted and the up/down arrows do nothing... I have to page down again to be able to highlight a title. This means when I want to watch a show on the LAST page of recordings I have to page up twice then down once to be able to select it.

Also, when I select a title that has more than three shows the fourth selection is alway blank, can not be selected, and can not be moved past with the down arrow. Page down will show the remainder of the shows but the fourth show is still showing as a blank space. I can select any show in the list other than the fourth, and have to go back to the "by date" screen to select that show.

Is this unique to my 9865?

I've had those problems. Never consistently, and not on the most recent firmwares, or even on any firmware recently. Probably been months since I've seen it. A reboot always fixed though.

Since the latest update (to 103) I've had to reboot several times because NOTHING shows up in my TV show list when I list by Date. Rebooting has fixed the problem, and I was able to list programs by Title or by Channel, and for a year I've had the problem of nothing being highlighted sometimes in program listings.

I've seen similar issues in the guide as well. It started with the last firmware update (4.0.2?). Every new release seems to introduce as many new bugs as it fixes. This is worse than software beta testing. I see a lot of free, open source software that has better quality control than the 9865.

Auto Shut Off

Is there anyway to programme the 9865 to shut of at a given time.

Thanks.

Sorry Sammey. No. Just ANOTHER shortcoming of the idiotically designed NB3. (And I JUST WROTE in another thread how this missing feature is a BIG pain in the asterisk for me - because I fall asleep every night 'listening' to standup comedy - but my TV remote control sensor stopped working years ago - so I too often wake up with the TV still on.)

HDTVaddict: You may wish to try the following: Go to the IPG for channel 950. Programme a reminder timer for a time in the future. It says "no information" but there appear to be time slots. It may switch to this channel, which has no audio or video... (there is a one-minute warning) Let me know if that works for you. Often when I go away from the Home Theatre for a while, but I want to leave the TV and AVR on, I switch it to channel 950 for the time I'm gone. This reduces power consumption on my plasma significantly, compared with a brighter picture and also there's no burn in.

Even channel 950 sends a signal to the TV though, so, even though most TVs will turn off after a certain time period (mine is 10 minutes) if there is no signal, that doesn't apply here.

HDTVaddict: The reminder timer trick I mentioned above works for me. Just select the next "programme" timeslot on channel 950 and the PVR will tune to that channel at that time. Granted, you cannot select a specific time, but at least it will change. There are timeslots every 3 hours on Ch950 on my 9865.

I wonder if anybody has ever experienced the same problem I had last night:

My PVR was off this morning, and I could not turn it on by pressing the power button, or from the remote. The only thing that was on was the time display.

I unplugged the power cord and recycled power. After the reboot, everything seems to be back to normal, at least for now, other than the fact that it didn't record a scheduled overnight recording. It appears that at some point, it just went off and became non-responsive.

Is this maybe one of the known issues, or should I get it replaced?

It has been mentioned that the 9865 sometimes becomes totally unresponsive - at 1AM-2PM (button or remote), requiring an unplug. See the summary link in post 1. Perhaps they've changed the time, or perhaps you had a unique situation. I wouldn't exchange it until this happens at least once more, and if it happens again, wait a couple of hours to see if it responds to the power button then...

It was not during the process of updating. It was around 10 am, when I wanted to turn on the TV and noticed that the PVR was not working. Whether it never recovered from the overnight update, or was it something else, I don't know. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the reply.

Nextbox 3 constant reboots every few weeks

This started happening about a month ago. We have a nextbox 3, it's the only box we have as we only have one TV. About a month ago around 8PM the box rebooted and we thought all was fine but it kept doing it over and over to the point where we just unplugged the box and left it for the night. The next day I plugged it in and it worked fine now, weeks later it's doing it again, we were watching the ball game and suddenly it went into boot loop mode so we have unplugged it. Rogers tells us they have never heard of this happening has anyone else experienced this? We are going to swap it for another but wanted to know if this is a more common issue then Rogers lets on.

Thanks

Anyone else having a problem where the screen might suddenly go all black for a split second every now and then when watching recorded shows? At first I thought it was just my TVs settings or something that's doing it since I can pause/rewind the show I'm watching and replay the moment the screen went black, and it'd show fine, but the more I take notice, the more I realize it happens whenever I watch a recorded show.

All other times it's fine, it's just annoying having the entire screen go black for a split second at random moments. Any way to fix this or what?

Make sure you don't have an ethernet cable connected to the 9865. Check out the summary link in post 1 of this thread, to which your post was moved.

Once the box boots, make sure you check the signal strength and S/N ratio:

Pause Function

My wife has a bad habit of pausing her 9865 for a long time, during recorded and live programs. I think this is causing the device to ago nuts, it freezes up, the menu features stop working among other things. Does anyone else have this problem.
