Troubles with External Drive on 8300

I bought and I installed a WD7500AAKS in a Vantec NexStar.3 to my 8300HD. Everything was working fine till I noticed that my recordings had hickups. I thought first it was the feed so I listened it live to see that it was not the feed. All my new recordings has hickups. The new reocrdings are made all on my new drive. What can I test now ? Should I reformat the disk ? Should I change cables ? Thanks for your help ! François

Check your signal strength and S/N ratio, as discussed in the following thread.

A slightly weak signal can cause these issues on recording, even when live looks OK.

Thanks for the infos but it only began when I plugged the external hard drive. If I listen a recording that is on the internal hard drive, I don't have the problems. It happens only when the recording is on the external hard drive.

I understand that, however, when recording to the external drive, lots of people have noticed that a higher signal is required. Indulge us and tell us what your Signal and S/N ratio are on one of the channels you're recording.

This may not be the problem, but it's a place to start. After that you can attempt another drive/enclosure/cable, etc. Many people have a similar combination to yours with the 500 GB HDD (I have that setup). Not many people have the 750. Of course, make sure that the SATA cable is well seated at both ends and that the drive has been well seated in the enclosure, etc.

Hmm, those levels look good, so I guess the issue does lie elsewhere...

I'm using the cable that came with the enclosure. But when the STB asked me to format the hard drive, I pushed the A button but never knew really when it was finished formatting. So I wait 15 minutes and unplugged the STB. After, it told me that my hard drive was ready and was working sith the STB.

Ok. I reboot a 1000 times, I reinstalled the drive in the enclosure, I checked the SATA cable, I checked the power cable... I still have the same problems. So, what can I do now ?
