PACE 550HD not working

I've had a PACE 500HD set top box on my HDTV for over 2 years now. Now it won't seem to work. I didn't do anything to it, but it has been acting fairly weird.

First, the time doesn't appear on the display panel.

When I turn it on, the blue "Digital Navigator" screen from Scientific Atlanta appears. Which is strange because it is not a Scientific Atlanta box.

After leaving it for about a minute on the blue screen, a strange message comes up saying something to the effect of advanced services not being available..

Shortly after, it tunes itself to channel 949, which for some reason has CMT on it (I don't even subscribe to that channel). That is the only channel I can watch. I can't switch channels, and the time is still not appearing. When my only channel, CMT is on, 949 always appears on the front of the box.

It is really a very strange problem. Could the problem be at Videotron's end? Could it be with my set-top box? I know the wiring is correct because it was working fine a few days ago. Are any other Videotron customers getting CMT on channel 949 (which is supposed to be one of the "test" channels or something)?

Have you performed a cold reboot? Have you checked your signal strength? Have you checked your connections to make sure they're electrically and mechanically good upstream of the unit? Have you tried removing any splitters upstream and connecting the STB as close to the demarcation point as possible?

After about 5 days of not working, it has decided to work today.

Thanks for the suggestions on things to try. If it happens again, I'll try them all, and at worst, I'll ask to get it repaired.

Sorry to bump this thread up, but I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD.

It happened overnight. When I woke up the only light that was on was power (I left it on standby before going to sleep). When I attempted a cold boot, all I see is blue SA box and then it switches to channel 949 with a message "Advanced services are not available."

The only two indicators lit up on the box are the power light and number 949. Nothing else.

Any ideas?
