Vidéotron added 2 new channels this morning:

- Al-Jazeera English on channel 173, which was simultaneously added on BellTV and Rogers. Free preview for the next 2 or 3 months.
- TFO HD on channel 694, which was already available on BellTV and Rogers. You need to be subscribed to Franco, Telemax, Mega, or part of your Sur Mesure choices to access it.

Both channels are NOT yet available in Gatineau and Clarence-Rockland areas.

TFO HD

Boy oh Boy! I'm sure there were a lot of people complaining that TFO HD was not on the grid. Another slap in the face of those who have been waiting for more english channels in HD.

NASA TV HD Channel

NASA TV will add an HD channel on Jul 19. This HD channel is available to any cable or satellite operator (last year CRTC approved NASA TV for canadian distributers). Call videotron and recommend they add NASA TV HD, if your interested, of course.

Not exactly new channels, but Gatineau/Rockland residents should expect missing channels like Zeste and Yoopa (HD & SD), TFO HD, APTN HD and Al-Jazeera English to be added by September 1st.
Yoopa's Facebook page states the addition will come with a 2 months free preview.

Also, Zap2ItTV lists Playhouse Disney Télé on channel 91, but it's not on the dial yet.

Cool discovery world HD on 725

We saw this new HD channel by accident on August 5. Anyone know anything about it?

Live and let live.

Oh for crying out loud !

On August 2nd,
- MenTV (107) was REBRANDED as The Cave. *** FREE PREVIEW ***
- TV Land Canada (133) was REBRANDED as Comedy Gold.
- Discovery HD (725) was RENAMED to Discovery World HD. *** FREE PREVIEW *** That channel has been there since 2006. It is not the same thing as Discovery Channel channel 64.

Coming up soon:
- Mystère (93 SD & 693 HD) will become Addik TV - August 23, 2010
- Court TV Canada (135) will become Investigation Discovery - August 30, 2010
- CJNT-TV (14) will use the on-air brand "Metro 14" - September 2010
- Discovery Civilization Channel (156) will become Discovery Science - September 27, 2010

Also, Vidéotron doesn't carry them, but Rush HD and Equator HD will rebrand as well.

Are they doing all those changes because those channels were not performing. I had Men Tv and Discovery as part of my fave 30 but I was really not impressed by the cheap canadian programs. I can't take another TSN 90s sports quiz show rerun on MenTv or low budget science show on Disc. Hopefully they bring some better shows to these channels !

MusiquePlus HD and MusiMax HD will launch on August 23, eventho the press release didn't specify which providers will carry it, I guess we can say for sure that Videotron is one of them.

That doesn't leave a lot of French channel to be launch in HD besides Teletoon...Hopefully we will get some English ones next...And hopefully NOT Sportsnet One...can we get other channel than Sports and Movies.

I do want MFun & MExcess, Superchannel and all the channels we can get, but those Sports channel basically don't offer much that we dont' already get either in French on RDS or things that don't really appeal to viewers here like Calgary Flames or Vancouver Canucks hockey games...

For french specialties,

RIS (Réseau Info-Sports) on 99 should be the next logical french HD channel to launch since they also air live hockey games sometimes.
I suspect that Groupe TVA will launch an HD simulcast of TVA West. Argent HD and Idées de ma maison HD should follow, and CinéPop when they'll have more chances with the studios, and a 2nd HD feed of Super Écran would be nice.
On the other hand, Prise 2 and Télétoon Rétro have no choice but remain in SD due to their 4:3 sources.
