program to create vdeo games

Years ago, AMIGA computers had a program that would let you create video games. It was called AMOS if I'm not wrong. It was like Pinball Creator set or something, where you could make a platform based videogame using preset figures and what not.

Now in the 21st century, does anyone know of such a program that would do about the same? A friend of mines son wants to make something like it for a science project. I said I'd ask and if possible, it has to be either free , freeware or shareware.

Thanks

Danster

Take a look at Game Maker: http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker

It's free to download and looks like it might work for him.

Here's some background info about it:

Another great program you friend's son might be interested in after he's done his project is Pivot Stick Animator. It's a free animation program that's simple to use but a lot of fun.

Many thanks to you both. I have forwarded the info to my friend and I'll post back what she writes if indeed, it was what her son wanted.

Wasn't Microsoft coming out with something like this for the 360?

The XNA Game Studio Express is what you are talking about.
