Futureshop HP Q6700 with 24" monitor

I thought I was buying this computer with the combo Bluray/HD DVD player.

Didn't read the fine print.

The combo, is the only High Definition DVD player/reader currently listed on the HP online site.

Obviously, this unit was made up for Future Shop.

I'm not happy

The store was a 14 day return policy. It is a bother to pack it all up.
I wonder if they have access to the combo drive and could swap them ?

BTW, odd that the monitor has HDMI out and includes an HDMI cable. But the computer only has DVI inputs. So a VGA from the monitor needs a VGA/DVI adapter to connect to the computer.

Also no OS discs. Is this standard now ?

What fine print? It says Optical Drives Multi Format DVD Write / HD DVD Read on FS specs page for the computer.

They have a
LG 6X Super-Multi Blu Ray Write / HD DVD Read Internal Drive for 450 bucks.

According to FS site, the monitor has HDMI Input, not output. The computer has outputs not inputs. All you need is a DVI to HDMI cable.

No OS is standard on most if not all PC Makers.

Blu-ray/HD DVD Combo Drive

I just got in my head that 'cause it was an HP

It would be a Blu-ray/HD DVD Combo Drive

probably LG - though that isn't stated

It's a $250 option when ordering from HP directly

so you are blaming FS because you did not read the specs and assumed something that was not true.

take it back to FS and order it from HP or buy the drive from FS or somewhere else if it is cheaper and put in the drive after you take out the original drive.

There should still be a restore disk/partition and a license with the computer, if it's sold with windows pre-installed.

you would have to burn the Restore disc and you are given a small amount of time to do it.

Am I reading this right?

It sounds like the OP purchased a system from Futureshop, but can't attach the monitor because there is no DVI to HDMI cable, no VGA cable, and the monitor does not accept DVI?

If that is correct, it is just plain stupid - no matter how he orders it, or how little he reads the details, he should at least get a system he can hook up and run.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something.....
