yup, I like watching the West Coast feed of City TV (Vancouver) for the timeshifted programs, ones that i missed I can watch most of them 3 hours later.

I also have a family friend who lived in Vancouver so when he comes over we watch some of the local progamming from there and they seem to like it. I too like watching local programming from other parts of canada.

But not all. I have Bell Satellite TV, and Spike HD is supposed to arrive December 9 there, but sadly it did not show up in its EPG.

I predicted that next year (2011) Rogers would become the HD leader in Canada after Bell TV, especially in Ontario. That means Rogers would have about 130 HD channels. You know that Rogers offers much more multicultural channels than Bell Fibe TV, while other cable, satellite and IPTV providers in Canada offers less.

SMCKINNON24, what's the source that you've heard?

No offence SMCKINNON 24

I'm not sure where your source got the info

But?

I have a hard time believing Rogers will convert all their analog channels(2-70)into HD. I can't see them launching Space,Food,BBC World,Slice,Bravo,HGTV,OLN,BBN,A Channels,Much Music,Music Plus,CTS,CPAC,TWN,Metro Media,Rogers Comunity Englisgh & French, and a few others I forgot between 2-70 at there expensen when some of them don't have HD liciences or those that do for what ever reason won't or hav'nt launched.

Nothing against you, but I think your source may be misinformed.

Perhaps he meant converted to digital - not HD.

Perhaps Rogers has some negotiated carriage with some of the broadcasters for the new year, but they're waiting for the broadcasters to flip the switch?

With all the Flatscreens and Widescreen TV's it would be nice to see more content fit for them.

Rogers Customer Relations probably doesn't know any better than anyone else the plans for taking more analog channels digital, so I personally would not trust what was posted.

It is not rogers it is the CRTC the networks have to go to the CRTC and get a liciences to broadcast in HD in Canada.

No I was quoting SMCKINON 24, that heard "rumor" that Rogers was going to convert all channels 2-70 into HD. I didn't say Rogers had to go to get licenses for these networks? You misunderstood my post.

All I stated was how can Rogers convert these channels to HD when:

1) some don't even have HD licenses
2)those that do for what ever reason haven't launched

I know these networks have to go to the CRTC for a license and not Rogers.

All I said was I can't see Rogers taking the SD signal and converting it to HD at their expense.

All TV signals will be Digital in a year but digital does not mean HD, people can still tune Digital on Analog, but the broadcaster must downconvert them.

Question

As far as I know(Ottawa) is all digital 2-70.

Now grant you wether Rogers is broadcasting in Digital (2-70) and down coverting to analog or broadcasting in both digital & analog, that I don't know?

Many misconceptions here about HD, digital, broadcasting, etc.

Here's the thread on the analogue changeover. The relevant information is there. Please do not discuss this topic in this thread as this thread is for new HD channels on Rogers. Thanks.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=90621

1. Only OTA broadcasting is affected, therefore a channel like Discovery is not affected.
2. The provider decides what signal to send to the customers, not the broadcaster.
etc.
