WinTV questions

I have been using WIN TV, supplied with my new Hauppauge int TV tuner card, on my PC for some months now. For some reason though I can use it to program analog OTA recordings only, not digital. Also if I do a manual digital recording, of which are in HD, the resulting MPEG file is not usable by the MPEG editor supplied with WIN TV nor playable in anything other than WIN TV. I have tried WMP and my HD compatible editor DVD Author 3. I'm I missing something?
P.S I believe the version of Win TV is 6

The digital channels start with 1, then the channel# and lastly the subchannel#.

eg. OMNI1 and CITY-HD are channels 1641 and 1571 respectively.

Download MPV (mpeg2dec) codec and it should handle the HD recordings fine.
