Does anyone know if dctrecord can record the odd ball SD formats?

Does anyone have a link to download dctrecord? All of the comcast links seem to be dead.

Thanks

Firewire issues...

I was just getting my HTPC set up again in prep for the new season, and I noticed I can no longer capture a number of channels via firewire (Shaw Calgary, Motorola 6200 box).

Channels affected appear to be:
59 WSBK - Boston Superstation
60 KTLA - CW Los Angeles Superstation
61 WGN - CW Chicago Superstation
62 WPIX - CW New York Superstation
65 Telelatino
67 Teletoon - Retro

Has anyone else noticed this?

Has it always been this way and I just never noticed (a distinct possibility)?

59 and 60 at least are flagged 5C=0 "Copy Freely", but I get no signal from the firewire. Other channels (e.g. 200-209) don't appear to be affected...

I have Shaw and it seems the ability to record via firewire is controlled by the CCI flag.

All the Shaw channels I checked have 5C = NO in the d11 diagnostic menu. The CCI and DRM flags are in the "d06 Current Channel Status" menu, and their settings vary.

I havn't been able to research these flags yet, but did find a post on them on Digitalhome that matches my findings. I have found TSN could not be recorded in fall 2009 but now can.
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...=34604&page=19

Here is what I did find for my Shaw PVR:

DRM may be 0x00 or 0x01, and neither seems to prevent recording. CCI is either 0x00 or 0x02 on the channels I checked. I cannot record the channels with CCI = 0x02 from firewire. I also cannot record them when I record them on the PVR and play them back. This includes all the Standard Def. "superstations" (TV28, KTLA, WGN, WPIX) and some high-def channels like History and some of the HD U.S. network channels. Interestingly, the HD and SD versions of a channel may be different: the HD WGN has CCI = 0x00 and records fine and conversely the SD History channel records.

Some other points I noted:
1. The flags for two U.S. network channels fluctuated while I was watching the diagnostic screen! They fluctuated every couple/few seconds between {CCI = 0x02, DRM = 0x00} and {CCI = 0x00, DRM = 0x01). I could sometimes record (and properly playback) one of those channels direct via firewire, and sometimes could not record it. I only recorded for 10 to 20 seconds, so would need a longer recording to better test it.

2. The settings for individual channels must change over time. I had items on my PVR from two channels that ranged from several months to over a year old that I could not record off the PVR, but now I can PVR those channels and then record them off, and record those channels directly.

Dunno what happened, but those channels are now listed as 5C=Yes, Copy Once.

So even if I were to buy a Shaw PVR, I can't copy SD 59-67?!?

Is there a list somewhere of which channels are recordable, or are customers just expected to guess?

The firewire port is not supported by Shaw so there is no info from them as to what would be able to be recorded.
As for a Shaw PVR you can record any channel you wish using the PVR.

A quick request for fellow subscribers of Shaw HD who watch Discovery HD...

(Background: running MythTV PVR sourcing the HD signal through the active firewire ports in the back of a Motorola 6200/64xx series)

If you're running a Motorola DCT6200/64xx series after switching to the channel, press the power on the front and then the select button and choose diagnostic page 06. What does the CCI flag read? It should read 0x00 which means 'record enable' for a PVR, but in this case it reads 0x02 which locks MythTV out. Yet diagnostic page 12 registers 5C=NO. So what gives? Why is it only for Disc 228 (in Vanc.) that CCI=0x02?

thx for any info,

CCI=0x02 but 5C=1. Not sure if I got 5C wrong or you got it wrong. I check the 5C flag in the 1394 section from d11, which doesn't show both tuners. DWHD is one of the few non-network/non-premium HD channels that can't be captured.

What I can see (as of Tuesday 11PM)

diagnostic page 11, page 3 of 4: 1394: 5C Implementation: No. Copy Control: Copy Free
diagnostic page 06, CCI=0x02

(A good document for the diagnostic codes can be found here: http://www.midtel.com/pdf/dch3416.pdf)

result: no firewire output for Discovery HD.

This is ONLY for Discovery HD.

For point of comparison, PBS HD is: 5C=OFF and CCI=0x00

This Discovery channel CCI=0x02 has only happened within the last week. Before, it was clear.

The fact that 5C=OFF makes me think that this is an unintentional switch as they fiddled with other settings, perhaps with the end of the OasisHD promotion or something. I dunno. Anyhow, that's what's changed, and it has changed in the past week. Trying to check to see if that change has also taken effect in other regions other than Vancouver. Shaw Tech in Vancouver confirmed that on their boxes at downtown HQ that the CCI flag was set to 0x02 and 5C=OFF too. So it isn't a node thing. So the question then is: where else in the Shaw empire is CCI=0x02 for DiscoveryHD? If it isn't set like that in, say, Calgary, then it's an 'oops' on the local head-end area perhaps.

In Victoria right now:
diagnostic page 06, CCI=0x00

I'm not setup to check the 1394 output right now though.

To double-check this is for Discovery HD in Victoria? (I believe it's Channel 228 there as well…)

Thank you for the information, this will be very useful when dealing with Shaw Vancouver! Now to get a few more data points from other Shaw folk outside of Vancouver... :-)

Super This will make for an interesting phone call. Wonder if Calgary-ites or Kelowna-ites have this as well...

glad I was forwarded to this thread.

I'm on Shaw in Winnipeg and have noticed the problem with Discovery World since November 24th, when all of a sudden my MythTV box was reporting that it couldn't record any new episodes of MegaBuilders.

I've been using MythTV with Shaw for a few years now (about 5) and I've noticed that every once in awhile the channels I can/can't record change. As was reported in this thread, TSN-HD used to be non-recordable up until earlier this year (although TSN2-HD always was).

Only 1 affiliate of each of the American networks is recordable in Winnipeg, these include: NBC Minneapolis (KARE) - channel 207 , ABC Grand Forks (WDAZ) - channel 205, CBS Minneapolis (WCCO) - channel 206, Fox Tacoma (KCPQ) - channel 203, PBS Fargo (KFME) - channel 204.

The channels that are not recordable in Winnipeg are: ABC Seattle (KOMO) - channel 200, CBS Seattle (KIRO) - channel 201, NBC Seattle (KING) - channel 202, Fox Rochester (WUHF) - channel 208, Frame - channel 212, The Score - channel 222, History - channel 229, Oasis - channel 230, AMC - channel 239

Recordable HD Channels in Winnipeg via Firewire:
203 - Fox - Tacoma, Washington
204 - PBS - Fargo, North Dakota
205 - ABC - Grand Forks, North Dakota
206 - CBS - Minneapolis, Minnesota
207 - NBC - Minneapolis, Minnesota
209 - CBC - Toronto, Ontario
210 - CTV - Toronto, Ontario
215 - CNN
218 - Rogers Sportsnet West
219 - TSN
220 - TSN2
221 - Big 10 Network
223 - Golf
224 - Speed
225 - Rogers Sportsnet One
227 - National Geographic
233 - A&E
234 - Showcase
235 - HDNet
236 - TLC
237 - Encore Avenue
238 - WGN
243 - HBO Canada
244 - Movie Central
245 - Superchannel 1
246 - Superchannel 2

Non-Recordable HD Channels in Winnipeg via Firewire:
200 - ABC - Seattle, Washington
201 - CBS - Seattle, Washington
202 - NBC - Seattle, Washington
208 - Fox - Rochester, New York
212 - Frame
222 - The Score
228 - Discovery World (This just changed, this used to be recordable before Nov24)
229 - History Channel
230 - Oasis
239 - AMC
