Smile What is needed for PC to play/record HD content over a STB -2007-

Project - Turn my/your PC(in the room) into a HD TV/PVR

What does my PC do now?
um.... play regular DVD titles on 3007WFP with DTS sound output via Z5450.(And ofcourse I do a lot of stuff on it, I do not "only" play DVD titles =p)
Thinking of not having HDTV content on my PC/30" Monitor which is a waste. I have not watch a single episode of "24" for year 2007. I've gotten so busy.

I want to be able to ..

(W1) Watch HD content(1080i if not 720p) on my PC(PC serves HDTV function)
(W2) Record HD shows when I am not home (PC serves PVR function)
(W3) Play BD titles (I know, with 650+ tax I can do it, but that's later)

Plans to -

(P1) Buy a "card"(whatever works, I am still confused about what is right to get) for PC
(P2) Buy a STB
(P3) Subscribe to Shaw HD Basic
(P4) Work on it !
(P5) Enjoy it !

Equipment (Current)

Intel E6300 1.86GHz OC 2.8GHz
Asus P5B Deluxe
2GB DDR2-800
eVGA 7950GT 2 DL DVI output
AuzenTech X-Plosion 7.1 DTS
[Plan to buy a BD-RW/ROM to play BD Titles]
WD 250GB SATA HDD x4 RAID 1+0 mode (not online, need to be sure about PSU loading)
Liteon SATA DVD-RW (yes, nothing IDE =p)

Display 1
Dell 3007WFP 1 DL DVI input only
Display 2
Dell E228WFP 1 DVI 1 D-Sub input each

Speakers/decode box
Logitech Z5450 set (has 2 TOSLIN inputs)

What do I need?

After reading many threads, I figured I need a STB.
It seems all points to Motorola DCT6200 (heard DCHxxxx model is coming out to replace DCT6200)
I believe I need a STB without PVR function.

Now here comes many questions.

(N1) To get 1080i/720p video feed into PC, what (card) do I need?
DCT6200 has DVI & Component(YPbPr) out, only these two output supports 1080i/720p
Is there PC HDTV turner suppoers DVI/YPbPr In?
DCT6200 has Dolby Digital Out : 1 Coaxial, 1 Optical(TOSLIN)
Again, Is such PC HDTV tuner has digital input(perfer TOSLIN)
If no such, I might need a sound card which has TOSLIN input/output
(N2) To get 5.1 channel audio feed into PC, what do I need?
As metioned in N1, how do I do it and send it out to Z5450 to decode?
(N3) What software would I need to playback HDTV(1080i/720p) content(with audio)?
(N4) To use PVR function, what software do I use ?
from some reading, there seems to be some flag issue on what show is recordable. this is called C5 flag ? How do I deal with it?

(C1) Motorola STB (No PVR function) = C$280 on ********
(C2) Tuner card(video feed input) = < C$200 + taxes ( Hopefull, if this thing exist)
(C3) Upgrade current Shaw analog cable service to HD basic = +C$24.95/mo (on top of current household TV bill)
(C4) Cables(if needed) -unknown-
(C5) BD DVD-RW/ROM = C$650 + taxes

Quick FAQ

(Q1): Why don't you just get a freaking LCD HDTV w/ ATSC turner? Why go through all the trouble.
(A1): I am limited to one room. No space for a TV. Not to metion when I am home, I am in my room 95% of the time.(I eat in my room too)

(Q2): You seem rich. Can I have a piece of the pie?
(A2): I would like to share the experience/knowledge of this project. A piece of my 3007WFP? It's actually not that hard. Save up. That's what I did.

(Q3): Do you even have a TV at home that you can watch?
(A3): Yes. But I spend like about 5 hrs on it per month. It's cold(no heating so save on energy cost/bill). And I don't get to watch it often.
And it's analog. I can't stand the picture quility anymore. It hurts my eyes. It's year 2007 and I am still watching analog at home?

(Q4): What would you be watching once you have it done?
(A4): I'll be watching News in HD(Yes, you're reading it right, I love watching news). And TV shows like 24/CSI and SCI-FI programs. I love them.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope whoever has experience can enlighten me on this project.
And I hope whoever wants to do the same will benefit from this discussion. Thank you!

I have moved yoru thread to the appropriate forum.

All your questions are pretty much covered in this forum and the Shaw so you may want to search first.

The Shaw forum has several threads covering the output of HD and this forum has lots about HTPC.
