MYTHTV With Shaw Direct

I am looking for some advice on setting up MythTV to work with Shaw Direct.

Has anyone on gotten this to work.

My Setup:

Ubuntu 16.04 with MythTV .28
PCI Pinnacle tuner card currently pulling OTA

Requirements:
For MythTV to be able to change the channel
Keep Hi Def
That's about it.

Thanks,

One commonly used device for IR control is the LIRC. LIRC use with MythTV is documented here.

HD video can be captured using the Hauppauge HDPVR. It requires component connectors on the HD receiver and has a built in IR blaster. HDPVR use with MythTV is documented here.

Can't say I've done this. I've used the HDPVR with Windows and it works but can be problematic.

The PCI Pinnacle supports 640 by 480 capture resolution, not HD. It will capture HD channels but only on the standard definition receiver outputs.

Thanks for the links,

I read that HDPVR doc you liked to, I hoped to find some more current information, 2009 is pretty old. I'll give it a read over agian though!

The HDPVR itself is a bit dated. There may be better devices available. Even under Windows, HDPVR support has always been limited. Don't know what else is available. It looks like component outputs on new Shaw Direct receivers is being phased out as well.

I have no experience with it whatsoever, but I do try to follow what goes on in the linux kernel over time..
The Linux Media folks have been working on things in the linux kernel for years that might help you? Lookup linux cec and the media controller api??

One thing I could think of is if the shaw STB has a firewire interface?
I am pretty sure Mythtv has been used by some folks to interface with their Cable STB using firewire (IEEE 1394) for those cable systems that allow it in their STB SW.

I don't have any satellite subscriptions so I have no motivation. I have only used Mythtv
with PC based ATSC and DVB-S(2) tuners.

No Shaw Direct receiver had Firewire. The real only way go get recordable (not copy protected) HD out of a Shaw Direct box, is component.

majortom: Yes I use MythTV with Shaw via Firefire and have for several years. Regular Shaw Cable not Satellite though. In Winnipeg at least, the Firefire outputs on Shaw's boxes have always been unencrypted.
