Anyone do home servers for hosting media?
I've recently built a home server to serve a number of purposes. One of which is usage as a media server via Plex. Other uses include a virtual machine host, running some in-development websites, and as a backup destination.
The server OS is unRaid which is a really nice platform for hosting data in multiple drives, running applications via Docker, hosting virtual machines etc. I like it a lot, even though I am still figuring out some details of it and getting things set up just right.
My XBox One, which sits below my TV, is my media center machine. It's on the same network as the server so it can easily stream media via the Plex app which works off Plex Server on the server. I've been gradually ripping my DVDs and loading them on the server so I can stream them. Was really interested in the Plex DVR functionality coupled with a HDHomerun device, but that works with OTA which I don't have good support for where I'm located.
This is a bit different approach versus a typical HTPC which is often interacted with more directly and connects directly to a TV, is gamed on etc.
Anyone else here use a similar approach?
