One option, IF you are using iOS devices, I would say AIRPLAY based stuff as blueroomelecto said.
I am doing this myself as a mobile one (kitchen, outside in summer, etc)
Running iTunes say on a PC/Server.. and purchasing an inexpensive airport express.
On an iOS device.. you can use the remote feature to run the iTunes on the server... or you can use the homesharing to play it to the phone. Either way, works the same, per say. With the airplay configured as an endpoint.. its a playback device. On either of the above choices, you will be able to choose the airport express as an output choice (much like choosing playing on the phone or Bluetooth speaker).
You can be say in the bedroom, and set it to start playing down there. the iOS device doesn't have to stay in that location.
the airport express has a standard earphone jack out.. so can output to any set of amp or amplified speakers.
